Here’s a new look Newcastle team v Watford

Here is my new look Newcastle team v Watford.

It might not be a time to panic but surely it is time to have a fresh look at the team selection and formation.

Playing with both Jack Colback and Vurnon Anita is crippling the team when it comes to going forward.

We need as many people on the pitch whose instinct is to head towards the opposition goal, rather than repeatedly shuffle the ball sideways.

I would leave Anita out and keep Colback in, by playing some of our more forward thinking players, then we will need his energy and work ethic as the defensive player in this new look formation.

Papiss Cisse was woeful at West Ham and wasn’t great against either Southampton or Swansea either, this is before you get to these recent claims of indiscipline within the squad.

My third change from Monday night is a bit more controversial.

Georginio Wijnaldum started like a house on fire on the opening day of the season but his influence has lessened with each passing game.

I would take him out of the firing line temporarily but he would be first choice to come off the bench pretty much whatever the circumstances. Plus I would see this as only a short-term measure and would anticipate him being back in for the following game against Chelsea.

His absence would allow Siem de Jong to get a chance to use his experience and thoughful play to knit the play together and support Ayoze Perez up front.

Thauvin and Aarons could give energy going up and down either flank, plus interchanging.

Whilst I would keep Moussa Sissoko but in a central role, as his energy could be better utilised in helping cover the centre of the pitch as the more attacking formation hopefully does the business.

To create the image below I used The Mag’s NUFC team selector.

You can do the same as Sam by following the simple instructions HERE and then there are a number of great options where you can then also share your team via Twitter (include @nufcthemag in your tweet and we will share some of them with our 16k+ followers) , or you can share the selector on Facebook with friends, family and the rest of the black and white world. Alternatively, simply downloading the team image to the device you are using

When using the NUFC team selector you simply click on what team formation (4-3-3, 4-4-2 etc) you want, then click each position on the pitch and choose from the Newcastle United squad.

Go to the NUFC team selector now and choose and share your Newcastle team v Watford.

Before every match, simply go to the menu at the top of this screen and click features, then on the drop down list click NUFC Team Selector and choose your team for every match.
