First quotes from Steve McClaren pre-match Watford Press Conference

Steve McClaren has just given his Watford pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

Ahead of what most people are saying is a must win match, the Head Coach says that tomorrow the key things are the players’ attitude and how they start the game.

McClaren says that occasionally you have to take two steps back after taking one forward and he is counting on the supporters to turn up and once again back the team as they did against both Southampton and Arsenal.

The United boss also picked out Ayoze Perez, Rolando Aarons and Siem de Jong for special mention at West Ham, very likely pointing to at least one or two of them being considered for a start in the team against Watford.

At his press conference Steve McClaren confirmed new injuries for Karl Darlow and Steven Taylor which means 9 players in total will be unavailable.

Here are the other quotes from the press conference released early by the club:

“Reaction? We’ll see tomorrow. Everyone expects one. It’s an opportunity and a challenge for players. Every performance is important.

“We knew it would be a tough start. It takes time (with new players) and sometimes you can take a step forward and two steps back.

“I think the key was how we reacted after the second goal. That was the biggest disappointment until Ayoze, Siem and Rolando came on.

“We were very disappointed with the result at West Ham. Generally, the attitude has been spot on. Then we got to Monday.

“We’ve had unbelievable atmospheres at St. James’ Park against Southampton and Arsenal. We need that again tomorrow.

“Watford are buoyant. It’s going to be a true test for us but our attitude and our start are key. We need to progress and create more.”
