Fabrice Muamba picked out one Newcastle player as the best on the pitch from both teams as United drew 2-2 with Chelsea.
Muamba tragically had to give up professional football after suffering a heart attack during a live TV match between Bolton and Tottenham.
The former central midfielder said that Georginio Wijnaldum deserved his goal which came on the hour mark and put Newcastle two up.
Fabrice Muamba saying that the Dutch international had been the best player on the pitch, both when he was on the ball and with his work off it.
Fabrice Muamba on Twitter:
“Wijnaldum deserved to score his goal. He has been the best player on the pitch so far, on and off the ball he’s been superb.”
The summer signing from PSV had started like a house on fire against Southampton on the opening day, capping a great performance with a brilliant header.
His headed goal from Ayoze Perez’ corner yesterday was not quite a spectacular but arguably a lot more valuable.
With Steve McClaren and his players under intense pressure without a Premier League win and the midweek cup defeat by Sheffield Wednesday reserves, they were desperately in need of a lift.
Most fans would have probably settled for a spirited display and defeat against Chelsea, just to have something to suggest there could be better times ahead.
Happily, we got the bonus of a point, which could and maybe should have been all three on the performance.
As Fabrice Muamba says, Wijnaldum had a great game and along with his teammates halted a slide that was becoming more alarming with each passing match.
It may not have been the first win of the league season but in every area of the pitch Newcastle showed improvement and fingers crossed, will be able to carry it through to Manchester City next weekend.
