Fabricio Coloccini says that the players have to lift their heads up, starting tonight in the League Cup.

The Newcastle Captain has used his programme notes on Wednesday night to also ask the supporters to stay behind the team.

For many people, Coloccini has been one of the first to drop his head in recent games and has to start and show a better example to the team.

He says that Newcastle’s is a growing team but that the new signings are still adjusting, all the more reason then for Coloccini and the other senior players to start and take a bit more responsibility.

Fabricio Coloccini writing in the Sheffield Wednesday programme:

“The start of the season has been nowhere as good as anyone wanted or expected it to be.

“It is important to remember, however, that it is still the beginning of the season.”

Lifting heads up:

“We need to lift our heads up, keep working hard and try to put these bad results behind us.

“We also need you (the fans) to stay right behind us while we do this.

“We’re still growing as a team, we have new players adjusting to life in England and sometimes that can take time.”
