Vurnon Anita believes that the Newcastle squad have played ‘very good’ football and can beat Southampton.
He accepts that it will still take time for the team to really get into their stride (‘improve it to the max’) but that the possession style football that Steve McClaren has employed, suits the team and especially himself.
The former Ajax player also believes that everybody wants to see what Gini Wijnaldum can do and he thinks the new signing will be a crowd pleaser.
As for the other two summer buys, Vurnon Anita thinks that Mitrovic and Mbemba are ‘great talents’.
Vurnon Anita speaking to the club’s official tv channel:
“I think the football we played (pre season) was very good and we improved a lot – I think we can take all that experience on to the most important game on Sunday (Southampton).
“It still takes time to improve it to the max but we are on the right way. It (possession football) suits me very well and I think we can show a good game on Sunday and win the game.”
Everybody wants to see him:
“I feel confident, I have had a good pre season – I feel fit and ready to go.
“I think everybody wants to see him (Gini Wijnaldum) play and do very well. I think he is going to show the fans what he is capable of and give them something to cheer.”
“I think everybody saw that when they (Mitrovic and Mbemba) came on at the weekend that they have good potential and they are great talents.
“I big test on Sunday because Southampton are a good team but I think we are going to win. Like the last game (West Ham) we need to give them (fans) something to cheer.”
