Steve McClaren has said he will pick up to 20 players from his current Newcastle squad and rely on that key group in the coming season.
So yesterday we asked you to pick the (up to 20) players from the list below to make up your 20 man squad.
However, we did say that is you felt there weren’t enough players of a decent enough quality to make this key group of players then you should select less than 20.
On average in the poll, fans chose 17 or 18 players from the current squad, indicating that at least two or three extra signings are still desperately needed.
When it came to the choice from the current squad, this is how the voting went in terms of support for each player (Our thanks to the thousands of you who made the effort to vote):
98% de Jong
The above is the 20 man cut off point for the Newcastle squad, with the new boys from Forest just sneaking in.
As you can see, there is a core group of 12 or 13 players at the top, including the three new signings, who have overwhelming support.
As for the rest we have:
At the bottom we have a handful of players who most accept have no future at the club and who have played very few matches between them.
However, marginally above them you have the likes of Williamson, Gouffran, Obertan and Riviere who are all likely to feature this coming season but who retain very little support from the terraces.
Interesting times ahead…
