Rob Lee ‘Mitrovic was keen to show he isn’t going to be knocked about’
Rob Lee has made the understatement of the year on Newcastle’s new signing Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Coming on as a late replacement for Papiss Cisse on his debut, Mitrovic made his mark straight away by clearing out the Southampton left-back and earning a yellow card – Steve McClaren admitting afterwards that it could have been red (watch the incident HERE).
Rob Lee saying that the Serbian striker was ‘obviously keen to show he isn’t going to be knocked about’!
I don’t think there is much chance of that but Rob Lee says that the Newcastle signing has to focus that aggression and if he does so, he can ‘do great things’.
Writing on Kicca, Rob Lee:
“It was interesting to see Mitrovic was true to his word and quick to show he can handle the physical side of the Premier League.
“The Serbian striker took just 11 seconds to pick up his first yellow card of the season in his first game for Newcastle.”
Winning over Newcastle fans:
“Some people say he should have got a red but I think the ref made the right decision and I am sure he won over the Geordie fans with his passion.
“He is a young lad and was obviously keen to show he isn’t going to be knocked about. If he can focus his aggression he can go on and do great things.”
“Any fan would rather see a player on his debut putting himself about a bit rather than disappearing inside his shell and going missing as others have done.
“Over the season I am sure he will calm down a bit and prove there is more to his game than his ability to throw himself into a tackle. What he needs to do now is go on and score goals like he did when he was playing in the Belgian league.”
