There was a perfect on-loan debut for Newcastle striker Adam Armstrong on Saturday.

The Geordie striker had been entrusted with the number nine shirt by Coventry City and he has repaid them back handsomely.

The Coventry Telegraph has now revealed that the 18 year old has broken their record for player ratings voted by fans, with Adam Armstrong getting a rating of 9.2 out of 10 from supporters after his brace against Wigan.

The next highest Coventry player got a fan rating of 8.1 on Saturday and Armstrong’s rating is the highest since the newspaper introduced the ratings a year ago.

It took Armstrong only 14 minutes of competitive football for the sky blues, the striker bursting through the middle with pace, before expertly finishing into the bottom corner.

Then just after the hour mark Adam Armstrong doubled up, a low cross from the left and a really clever finish.

After the game Armstrong said:

“It was a great debut and as soon as I turned up at the stadium I knew it was going to be a big day for me.”

The Newcastle loan player was also named in the Football League team of the week and they described his performance:

“The teenager raced away to coolly put the Sky Blues in front, and a sublime finish from a John Fleck cross doubled their advantage.

“Armstrong’s efforts were his first League goals, and he was only denied a hat-trick by the woodwork. “
