Mark Lawrenson sees major change at Newcastle United
Mark Lawrenson has predicted better times ahead for Newcastle, starting with a win over Southampton today.
The one-time Newcastle United defensive coach believes that in Steve McClaren, NUFC have ‘a very good season’.
Lawrenson thinks Newcastle will bounce back with a very good season and the new signings (better players) to help produce a better atmosphere that can carry United through to better times.
The former Liverpool player predicting a 2-1 win for United.
Mark Lawrenson writing for BBC Sport:
“Steve McClaren is a very good coach and I am expecting Newcastle to have a very good season after their recent problems.
“They have better players, there will be a better atmosphere and they will get better results.”
“Southampton have a lot to live up to after the way they performed in Ronald Koeman’s first year in charge.
“They have lost a couple more key players in Morgan Schneiderlin and Nathaniel Clyne but I would not be surprised to see them end up in the top half of the table again.”
Each week, Mark Lawrenson has a guest who also predicts the results and this week it is Newcastle fan and (perfectly timed) past Ashes hero Graham Swann.
Maybe predictably Swann also predicts a Newcastle win but guessing he hasn’t been to many games recently, with his assertion that ‘teams don’t come away from St James Park with anything’.
“It’s a good job it is not at Southampton because we always lose there but teams don’t come to St James Park and come away with anything, 2-0.”
