Louis Van Gaal claims that Manchester United were ‘fantastic’ against Newcastle today, after the 0-0 draw..

The Man Utd manager claimed that there was only one team who wanted to win…and it wasn’t Newcastle.

This was despite Manchester United rarely troubling Newcastle United after the opening 20 minutes and Florian Thauvin almost snatching victory in injury time.

Not forgetting Mitrovic having a header that came back off the woodwork with the home keeper well beaten.

A job well done by Steve McClaren’s team and sour grapes from the home manager.

Louis Van Gaal:

“I have seen a great match, I think the performance was one of the best in my period (as manager). We have created a lot of chances but we don’t reward ourselves – so the result.

“I am not satisfied because we lose two points and there was only one club who wanted to win and that was Manchester United.”

Best linesman in the world:

“You cannot say that Smalling was a bad header or Rooney was not finishing well because he scored a goal and when you see if it is offside or not – I doubt it I have to say. If you see that you are the best linesman in the world.

“Every goal you score is very important and that is why they (Newcastle) stay alive, it was an important decision.”

Fantastic:

“I counted 14 chances so it is a lot.

“The fans can be happy because the team is more balanced than last year and we play a fantastic match today.”
