Capital One Cup confirmation for Newcastle v Northampton

Share

Monday was the deadline for clubs to confirm date and time of their Capital One Cup second round match and for Newcastle v Northampton, the club have gone for 7.45pm on Tuesday night.

No reason has been given for the deviation from the usual Wednesday night for United midweek match timing, but presumably it must be to do with the fact that both the games before and after, are Saturday lunchtime matches.

So a little more time to prepare for the Arsenal home which is on Saturday 29 August, with away to Manchester United this coming Saturday (22 August).

Sunderland are home to Exeter City the same night, so also slightly surprising that the Police haven’t expressed a preference for the two matches to be on separate nights.

Presumably there is a good chance that Ivan Toney will be included in the match day squad against his old club, the striker wears the number nine shirt tonight for the Under 21s who are home to Blackburn.
