Aleksandar Mitrovic post-Manchester United interview: ‘Stay Calm’ and think of the points
After two bookings within seconds of getting off the bench, I doubt many Newcastle fans would have given Aleksandar Mitrovic any chance of not picking up at least one more, if he came on as a sub once again.
When Mitrovic was named in the starting eleven, pretty much every supporter would have had two thoughts.
Can’t wait to see what he can do now he’s got his chance and please please please, don’t be stupid.
One decent cross and a towering header thudding back off the bar showed us what Aleksandar Mitrovic is capable of with the right service, plus his hold up play, even when outnumbered, promised much.
As for his discipline problem…what problem?
The Serbia striker did exactly what Steve McClaren asked beforehand, channelling his aggression in exactly the right way, something that Mitrovic admits he has to do every week if he is going to be a major plus for the team.
The former Anderlecht striker also said how proud he was to hear the Newcastle fans singing their song for him from the very start of the match, with Mitrovic determined to start and pay them back with goals as soon as possible.
Aleksandar Mitrovic talking to NUFC TV:
“I’m very tired, very difficult game. We play a little more defensively but if you want to pick up points at Old Trafford you need to play like this. We play as a team and that is important, I think we deserved this point.
“I really enjoyed it and we also had good fans today, all game they were behind us, we also had our chances but we were also lucky – so a good result for us.”
One cross (almost) one goal:
“It (header against bar) was unlucky, a good cross from Chancel (Mbemba) and I should score but I hope next game I score my first goal for Newcastle.
“This is what I need (good crosses), today I didn’t have a lot but I think next game I will have more. “
Sing a song for me:
“I heard the (Newcastle fans’) song and it is a really nice feeling to hear that from the very start, that they have a song for me.
“I am very happy and proud and I can say I will keep working and hope I will soon score goals.”
“I can say every week I feel better and better, the last 10 minutes were a little difficult, in one more week I will feel much better.
“No yellow cards, I stay calm all the game and I need to do this every game.”
