Four games into the new season and realistically, things are in a far better state at the club than I expected they would be at the end of May.
Credit where it’s due but one good transfer window doesn’t forgive Ashley’s many many sins.
If he’s really turned a corner and managed to find a horse for his cart, we’ll have an active January, and next summer will be at least as active as this one.
Now that things on the pitch are looking good I have a simple request of the Newcastle fans. It’s nothing complicated, I’d just like it if we could actually sing the Blaydon Races properly.
The version sang by fans at the match these days is just gibberish. It’s a song that’s closely associated with the club and our history, and we can’t even get the words right.
For the record, the chorus goes:
Oh me lads, you should’ve seen us gannin’
Passing the folks along the road
just as they were stannin’
Aal the lads and lasses there
aal wi’ smilin’ faces
Gannin along the Scotswood Road
To see the Blaydon Races
If we could get that right that would be lovely.
I learned the whole song at school in year 7, and I can still manage almost every word 22 years later. I’m not sure whether or not this was part of the national curriculum, but it should be!
