Sheffield United is the latest stop on Newcastle United’s world tour – well Gateshead, America and Yorkshire!

Newcastle facing the Blades in Chris Morgan’s testimonial at Bramall Lane which kicks off at 1pm today.

After wins against Gateshead and Sacramento and defeats by Club Atlas & Portland Timbers second team, Newcastle now face three friendlies within a week.

Lining up today in the starting eleven for Newcastle are:

Krul, Janmaat, Williamson, Taylor, Haïdara, Anita, Colback, Sissoko, Wijnaldum, Perez, Cissé

On the bench:

Darlow, Lascelles, Satka, Abeid, Gouffran, Aarons, Armstrong, Obertan, de Jong

Coloccini nowhere to be seen, which will no doubt further fuel the reports yesterday that he is one of seven the club are looking to sell, though on top of that he has had an Achilles problem which has prevented him playing in the previous four – though he was said to be training ok in the lead up to this match.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is reportedly still waiting for his work visa to be sorted, which doesn’t do Steve McClaren any favours with his preparations for only 14 days time and the visit of Southampton.

The team today does have the look of being pretty much what could be Steve McClaren’s first team, from those players who are currently available.

Daryl Janmaat is named Captain today, though McClaren had previously said he would be picking different players in different games to have the honour pre season – the likes of Sissoko, Colback and Gouffran(!) already having worn the armband.

Williamson, gouffran and obertan. Those names are still there! WHY?

  • Oldgit

Because we have no one else, about time charley pulled his finger out and get us some decent players. I can see us starting the season with a few of these players still being. Not leaving much time time for the new players to settle in.

Reports that Colo is possibly off to join his old boss at Palace , if he stays or goes and we’re still stuck with Williamson , the board need to make at least one  good CH a priority now . Lacelles is inexperienced in the prem , hopefully he’ll come good and it looks like Mbemba’s now nailed on , but we still need one more CH as Williamson and Taylor at the back fills no one with confidence for the coming season .

    Exactly!

Will-I-am-shyte and sailor at the heart of the defence vs Southampton in two weeks time, will be a catastrophe!! This would completely destroy the chances of gaining any momentum on the back of the new signings and return to the 1st team picture of de Jong and arrons. This club deserves better!!!
Is this what fat mike meant by “we will be making our own luck from now on”? Sounds like he’s still happy to ride our luck IMO.
