Sacramento Republic v Newcastle United – NUFC won the second match of their US tour, with an own goal enough to give them victory.

Not the best of displays – lacking imagination, whilst the centre of defence is looking dodgy as usual, with the clean sheet only thanks to good goalkeeping by Krul and Woodman alongside poor finishing by the hosts.

Massadio Haidara’s sending off meaning Georginio Wijnaldum had to defend rather than show us his attacking talents.

You can judge for yourself anyway by watching the full match below.

Alternatively we have picked out some highlights that you can go straight to, if you don’t have the time or inclination to watch all the way through.

watched the whole game at 4 am,  American commentator came up with these  gems ” Lascalles at  at 21 could learn a lot from his central defending partner Mike Williamson who is 10 years his senior.(fkn hope not)
after the HT substitutions we had Freddy Woodman as the new man in our goal box
we paid £23 m for Wijnaldum
Sissoko is being possibly being signed off from our first team EPL squad by head coach Steve Mcclaren
and the  defeat of the Mackems  goes down as the greatest victory ever

Toothless once again , against a 3rd tier US side . We played the ball
about well at times , but we huffed and puffed a lot against a side that
gifted us the goal. A few looked off the pace a bit  but Its early days
yet , but we need  decent new signings to stand any sort of chance in
the new season. or it will be same old same old .

  • TonnekToon

lupamac  Jesus , I was loosing the will to live listening to the commentary , but you’re right they came out with some right corkers , they kept calling Woodman Woodwood at first , and the guy nearly swearing on air . most of it was  b****ks spoken about eff all in general .

I watched the full match. The final third was abysmal until Aarons came on. He is going to be exciting to watch this year. Haidara had a good game. Obertan I thought worked hard but runs out of ideas. Sissoko looked disinterested for the most part. Lascelles is a player but needs some time. Get us a CB!!
I’m heading down to Portland for my first ever Toon match!

  • TonnekToon

NUFCANADA Good for you mate . hope you get to enjoy the game and they give you a result . we’ve all savored our first game .

  • lupamac

NUFCANADA  agree  on Aarons just wish he,d  have looked for the pass a few more times when he,d gone past  the defender .instead of trying to beat him for the second time .

    TonnekToon
and the bit about how the big oil barons Of the UAE and Russia who own the top clubs buy our players for for 40 or 50 million english pounds.
that fkr Ashleys not telling us something
anyway just off for my potroast and a few hot dogs wash down with a few bud lites..
ps one of the HT adverts  was for Jippy Lube ithought it might be an Ann Summer,s
product but no it was a fkn garage

We are still trying to get to grips with a more fluid
possession style of pass and move, but it won’t come overnight…and not when the
opponents are more used to playing that way, and more match ready…decent
    opposition.

…Krul, Colback, Janmaat, Haidara, can be relied on now…Anita,
De Jong are not far away…Sissoko looks sprightly and covers ground, but doesn’t
produce anything much to show for it, and Obertan is a lot less effective at
delivering so Cisse just ends up looking like a lame duck…

…Aarons, Woodman and Ayoze are definite diamonds that are ready
to play in the PL, and Taylor made a positive difference at the back when he
came on…can’t wait to see Gini in his attacking creative role because he showed
a lot of stabilising influence on a side playing with a man less, when he came
on…bring on the next early morning game!!

  • TonnekToon

lupamac TonnekToon  Haha, enjoy your Bud’s  Bud .

I again agree with Wor monga below. I think Aarons and Perez are our only real penetrating players and sometime Sissoko who can be at times brilliant.

Its going to take time to come to terms with keeping the ball better.

Aarons should be signed on a long term contract now or we are going to lose him for zero soon.

woodman is obviously going to be a real top keeper and could probably replace Krul even now without too much trouble. Expect Krul to play this season and be sold for 10 million next summer. With Woodman/Darlow left to fight it out to be the new number 1.

Stevie Taylor was way better in posession at the back and i hope he stays fit to partner Colocinni all season.

Haidara has alot of energy but sometimes his runs were ignroed. Aarons is by far our best threat and should play down the left with Haidara. That would be a solid threat from that side. Right hand side our best option it seems is Obertan and my jury is still out on him. Shows glimpses of brilliance occassionaly.

    Fingers crossed.

I actually thought De Jong was really good, used the ball well and made some very intelligent passes into the box which no one picked up on. If he can stay fit and learn to play with a forward, or pair of forwards, he will be a real asset. Reminded me a bit of Bergkamp with his footballing brain.
