Rubbish Newcastle transfer news: 87 targets – 61 days to go
Welcome to our daily rubbish Newcastle transfer news service, featuring all the players NUFC are ‘buying’ (including proposed loan deals) this summer.
We will update each day and try to keep you abreast of all these exciting transfers that aren’t going to happen (as well as the handful that hopefully will…).
A bumper crop of 5 new names brings the running total up to 87 targets with 61 days remaining (8 days until the first friendly and 5 weeks until the start of the season).
To kick us off we have a strange one, with Mario Balotelli supposedly a target for Newcastle, the club said to have approached Liverpool with a view to a loan deal.
All sounds very dubious and the source is the Winner Sports website who don’t have a great track record when flying their transfer stories.
Balotelli scored one Premier League goal last season so I suppose he wouldn’t feel out of place if he lined up with Emmanuel Riviere…
The same source (Winner Sports) also claim that Newcastle want Manchester United’s Jonny Evans, the only person in professional football who wants us to believe that he doesn’t know when he is spitting! As well as his ‘spat’ with Papisse Cisse and the subsequent suspension, Evans picks up injuries regularly.
His injury record (and being pretty poor/average) has meant that Jonny Evans has only started 29 Premier League matches over the last two years.
Next up is London born but Ghanaian international, Albert Adomah. The Middlesbrough winger has scored 18 goals over the course of the last two seasons and been arguably their star player in that period. Their failure to get up through the play-offs may mean that the 27 year old will now look to get to play in the Premier League for the first time, via another club.
Over in Italy, Tuttosport claim that Newcastle are interested in Mauricio Isla.
The versatile player can operate all down the right hand side of the pitch as full-back, wing-back or wide midfield. A Chilean international he was on loan at QPR last season and Juventus are reported to be keen to sell.
Finally today, striker Chris Martin makes the list. The 26 year old forward is the latest Derby County player that Steve McClaren is keen to be reunited with, according to speculation.
Under McClaren, Martin has scored 40 goals in the last two years in the Championship, The striker has moved ferquently between clubs but has played almost exclusively outside the Premier League, having started only six games in the top tier.
To try and keep some kind of order, the players are listed in alphabetical order by surname, then first/other names, the club they are/were at when Newcastle were linked with them, then finally the club they have ended up signing for (if any).
Please let us know of any that we have missed out as we go along and especially if you notice if any on the list actually sign for a club and we haven’t added that information.
