Newcastle legend Rob Lee has declared about his old club: ‘Great signings but don’t stop now’.

The former United midfielder was reacting to the signings of Georginio Wijnaldum and the reports on Friday that Charlie Austin is also on his way to Tyneside.

Lee says that the QPR striker is ‘just the kind of player the club needs’.

Whilst the striker has only had the one season in the Premier League, the previous three seasons saw him starting 98 league games and scoring an impressive 59 goals.

Last season of course, Charlie Austin scored 18 Premier League goals for the team that finished rock bottom.

With only 23 days until the season kicks off for United, NUFC are desperate to bring in at least one credible goalscorer.

Let’s hope that Rob Lee is right and Newcastle are signing Charlie Austin (or equivalent) plus other ‘Great signings’.

Rob Lee writing on Kicca:

‘If Charlie Austin has signed for Newcastle that is great, great news for the fans and the club.

It shows real intent by United and shows they are prepared to spend big and compete in the transfer market.

A lot of clubs were after Austin so it is great if he has chosen to go to Newcastle United.

Austin is British and he has shown he can score in the Premier League. That is just the kind of player the club needs.

Austin would be the second signing within a week – I just hope there are three or more players on the horizon.

My message to the club is simple…..great signings but don’t stop now.’

‘If’ he has signed being key here. Progress in terms of signings has been painfully slow. Those within the club must show some urgency as the rebuild is quite a task. We were utterly dismal last season and the side must be strengthened otherwise, we are relegation certainties. Come on Charnley – you can do it……

“Don’t stop now” is exactly right ,we need quality and we need it now ,it’s just not about what’s going to happen on the pitch ,it’s also about how we are being treated as fans ,promises were made and on this occasion there’s no going back on them ,especially as ,those same promises identified our failings ,you know what we need and you know what you said ,so it’s time to live up to them !

Why isn’t Rob Lee a serious part of Newcastle United…………….?

Charnley needs to go Mark, he couldnt pick his own nose never mind a future star for the club…Useless.   !

Porciestreet The mention of the man brings that many positive thoughts, discussions, respect just bloody everything. The fella comes across as an intelligent football man and my surprise is he hasn’t went into football management. The bloke seems to be top draw from top to bottom. He’d be back in a shot. Coaching?? Yes please!!!

Porciestreet – couldnt agree more. Rob Lee would be a perfect fit.

Agreed. I just live in the hope that Penfold has something up his sleeve though, knowing our luck its probably the mere finger that he uses to pick his nose rather that Mikes chequebook!

What he is saying is nothing different to what has been said by many on this site already, his comments aren’t especially insightful.
I don’t think he has ever taken coaching badges and seems happy to make money by providing media outlets such as this one and the Chronicle with his unoriginal views.
