Newcastle United have made a move for Mario Balotelli according to claims this morning.

The Italian has been an unmitigated disaster for Liverpool, scoring only one Premier League goal over the course of last season after his £16m move from Milan.

With Roberto Firminio and Danny Ings already signed, plus Christian Benteke likely to join them, he looks surplus to requirements at Anfield and teh reports claim that Newcastle want to loan him in the coming season.

The Newcastle story is an ‘exclusive’ from the Winner Sports website who haven’t got the greatest strike rate with transfer stories, having already previously claimed United were on the verge of signing Jonny Evans and Rickie Lambert in this summer market.

They further report that Liverpool are yet to respond to Newcastle’s ‘offer’ and would prefer to get Mario Balotelli off their hands permanently, though would consider a loan if a sale doesn’t happen.

Whatever the truth of this exclusive, the longer it goes on without Newcastle United signing at least one or two strikers with a credible past record, it would look more and more likely that Mike Ashley could once again look to rely on a loan signing or two to fill that hole.

This was the case when he tried with mixed results when Loic Remy and Luuk de Jong were brought in at the start and middle of the 2013/14 season respectively.

That summer of 2013 of course saw not a single player bought…

As we all know, Mario Balotelli has his ‘issues’ but for AC Milan he scored 26 goals and only started 37 Serie A matches, so the talent is there.

As was the case with Newcastle United and Loic Remy, sometimes a desperate meeting of needs brings odd combinations together.

Though I think all of us would be surprised to see ‘Super Mario’ in black and white.

    Please God, NO.

  • Ryders_English

Veering into Chronicle territory with this story.

  • David Williams

    Desperation this if true

  • zemtex

There is zero chance of this happening. He’s too expensive, on too high a wage, bad attitude and didn’t score in the PL this season.

  • Sebastian Dzien

    No god please….

  • 1957

The Chronicle would have issued a second story by now claiming that we have stepped back and included a do you want Balottelli poll, to give them a follow up story for tomorrow.
Considering how awful his attitude is we need to stay well clear

  • jack1x

I’ve no intention of renewing my season ticket if we dont sign quality players , and loan signings wil not make any difference .Loan signings are not good enough

  • CaptainCaveman

This isn’t going to happen, which is good as he isn’t exactly prolific.

  • BillytheFish

Another Eric Cantona. Toxic as most clubs, genius as the right one…….

  • magpiefifer

This has to be a wind-up!!!
Ashley wouldn’t pay his wages anyway – thank God!!!

  • Dan Dowling

Oh the cycle of life and the transfer window. My money is on our injured players coming back being “like new signings ” – a few players jumping ship and a lot of fruitless speculation as usual.

  • desree

1957 the term the chronicle is using prolifically is ‘pulled out of the race to sign’ – I think it is in every article after the one they originally nicked from another publication – as if they would know.

  • desree

1957 Just checked, they are running an opinion piece by steve watson (who clearly must be interviewing for a coaching job at NUFC) and an article about the day Mirandinha signed.

    Bo****ks !

  • Barca89

    Please god yessss

  • WaltGriffin

Unmitigated disestar???? I think he had a bad start, which is normal for any player moving into a different system, but such a harsh comment for a player who who played less than 15 games all season….I think Rodger did an U mitigating disaster of a managing job on this player who has scored for every team but this one. And after the Spurs game Mario fought form and was sat for 9 games, a large chunk of his 900 plus munites were in the last 5 games when the season was lost.

  • WaltGriffin

It would be a fantastic move for them!

  • WaltGriffin

You are clueless, it would be a fantastic move for new castle

  • toon tony

    WHY US! !!!!!

  • camronb11

honestly, I would take balo at NUFC. sure, he had a bad year last year, but now he has a lot to prove. A couple of years ago he was regarded as one of the top forwards in the world. Plus hes a whole hell of a lot better than the lot we have right now. He has the potential to be a club legend. Give him the number 9 shirt and hope he catches fire early and he would be a GREAT signing. plus he could be pretty cheap.

  • Alsteads

Lol never gonna happen. He has that bit Tino about him though……….the mental side! Howay Mario come and have a season with us. Everyone hates us too! Yee’ll be a belter here

  • Mark Brooker

Better off with super Mario, but somehow this might have a ring of truth about it . I hope I’m wrong but Newcastle always seem to try for a jaguar and end up with a Skoda because they just won’t pay the money. Hope I’m wrong on this one Balotelli is just a Clown and a lazy one at that..

  • TeamGB

Ballotelli is considered high risk on a number of levels. Inconsistent, dissruptive, expensive, irrational, egotistic, not a team player…….basically just like Mike Ashley, so a fair chance we might get him :)

    a zero story non rubbish
go find some facts ..if y cant find any ..have day of
