Aleksandar Mitrovic will sign for Newcastle United today, according to the media in Belgium.

Top selling newspaper over there, Het Laatste Nieuws, say that negotiations took place between Anderlecht and Newcastle on Thursday, with a five year deal expected to be signed today.

Anderlecht’s General Manager, Herman Van Holsbeeck. has been sticking out for his valuation of around 17m/18m Euro (around £12m/£13m) and the Belgian newspaper expects that to be the ballpark figure.

We wait and see whether this is ‘the one’ that breaks Newcastle’s duck this summer, with 26 goals in 46 starts for Anderlecht this past season the 20 year old striker who has been dubbed the ‘Serbian Ibrahimovic’ has all the potential in the world if he can translate his form into the Premier League.

Het Laatste Nieuws (HLN) today:

‘According to our information, Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic will almost certainly agree a contract for five seasons at Newcastle.

Yesterday you could read in this newspaper that Anderlecht and Newcastle were at the table about Mitrovic . Yesterday, the case gathered momentum.

Sources close to the case expect the deal still to be agreed this week (today) .

The specific amount that Anderlecht will eventually land for the Serbian striker is not known, though Herman Van Holsbeeck (Anderlecht General Manager) has always said he would stick to the transfer of 17 to 18 million euros.’

Looks like Wijnaldum will beat him to it, has been given permission to talk to NUFC and have medical

  • LeazesEnder

….. PSV have announced https://twitter.com/PSV that they have reached an agreement with Newcastle United over the transfer of Georginio Wijnaldum

  • Les Higgins

When I see him holding the shirt etc….off back to sleep

  • jack1x

Hopefully no last. Minute problems , now Thauvin and Mtip , and one more

  • LeazesEnder

1957 Next I expect the sale of Sissoko….

  • Nutisbak2

Looks like we are finally getting there hey Leazes? As it happens I don’t think this signing is conditional on the sale of Sissoku, I am not even so sure we will sell him on.

Hopefully 2 come in today and at least 3 more before the end of the window and if that happens and all signings are a similar level of ability or better then we should find we can get close to or even finish in the Champions League places.

Any club out there can spend 60 million or so on players especially if they are willing to risk their financial security, that doesn’t mean those players are of the quality needed to play in the champions league.

Hopefully though that’s something we are making sure we are buying which is why these transfers are taking so long.

  • Nutisbak2

Does anyone know if the Gateshead match later today is being broadcast anywhere?

  • Nutisbak2

At 20 I would say that Mitrovic is someone who has the world at his feet and could easily go on to be one of the very best in the world. Personally I believe he will turn out to be a much better signing than Charlie Austin for similar money so for my mind there is no contest.

Mitrovic is exactly the kind of player we should be targeting and if this does come off then it shows a statement of ambition finally.

Wijnaldum (is anyone else having issues getting their head around spelling that?) is arguably one of the best players in the Dutch leagues and should easily make the transition to premier league, besides he almost singlehandedly took Brasil apart didn’t he?

For anyone that says we don’t need another midfielder I’d argue that it certainly wouldn’t do us any harm, he will probably play just behind the strikers and at times last season our midfield looked bereft of creativity.

toonterrier Nutisbak2  Wouldn’t surprise me right now because some of this sounds like fairy tails…….

  • kuromori

Nutisbak2 Champions League? Steady on, pal. We just avoided relegation on the final day!

  • mrkgw

Had never previously hear of Mitrovic nor Wijnaldum. Are they any good? Crystal Palace have signed Cabaye – quite how, I really dont know.

  • Nutisbak2

kuromori Nutisbak2  I’ve always maintained that the side last season suffered from big players being out for much of the season at most stages which caused mayhem, plus they also massively underperformed when Pardew left. Add to that the fact that McClarren and Cathro are tactically aware and astute then you can maybe see where I am coming from.

I think with the addition of 5 or 6 top players 2 of which seem to be coming in now we can be challenging for those top 4 or 5 places we aspire towards.

For many of the players in the team last season it was their 1st season of premier league football too, hopefully now they will have bedded in a bit and be ready for a new season to hit the ground running.

  • v0ices

Nutisbak2 cant agree at all mitrovic may be a good signing but hes a 20 year old comming from a lower level of football, at least austin has shown he can score goals in a struggling side and is exactly the kind of player the club needs. this is just another player bought in the hopes he comes good and can be sold on for a profit.

  • Nutisbak2

v0ices Nutisbak2  Mitrovic has been banging them in at every level, he’s talented and he will get better, he has the potential to be one of the very best.

Austin might have scored 18 in a flagging team but there have been plenty of stikers who have done very well in their 1st season in the premier league and have been sold on to another side only to then not be able to replicate that kind of form the following season.

If Austin has a season of equal or better this season in the premier league which at the moment it doesn’t look like happening then he will be worth 15 million, unless that happens his value is not that high.

For my money I would pump on Mitrovic.

  • Kazie23

Wijnaldum and depay were the best players in the dutch league and Depay went to Man united and now we got Wijnaldum who is a pretty good buy and a very good player …His an international player too but I hope we can offload Anita or they could make a swap

  • v0ices

Nutisbak2 v0ices sorry cant agree hes a gamble and although has huge potential austin is a player proven at premiership level for every player who has one good season theres half a dozen imports who never do anything.

  • Kazie23

I’m not so sure about Mitrovic because his playing style is alot similar to Ballotelli and they evens have the same squad number…this could be a bad signing for us and we’ll loose alot of money on him….And as for Wijnaldum I’m pretty exited about him joining us and I would play him on the RW if De Jong is fit and ready to go in the league..THIS IS HOW THE TEAM SHOULD LOOK LIKE….
    KRUL
    JANMAAT-LASCELLES-DUMMET-HAIDARRA
    SISSOKO-DE JONG-COLBACK
    WIJNALDUM- -AARONS
    MITROVIC
Then Ayoze and Cabella should be coming off the bench or fight for there place in the team

  • Kazie23

I wouldn’t take them…Thauvin could be another Cabella and I don’t want anymore french players in the side as we need to get rid of our currents such as Oberton,Marveux,Gouffrann and Riviere I would only keep Haidarra,Sissoko and Kemenas the frenchies….As for Matip he’ll be a very good player but we’ll miss him when it comes to the Winter break when he leaves for the AFCON

  • Polarboy

Kazie23 Mitrovic is an out an out centre forward with great positional sense, heading and finishing ability. Ballotelli is a player that shows fleeting moments of skill, finishing and little else. Ballotelli’s biggest problem is his lack of a football brain, and brain in general, Mitrovic as a player has much higher potential.

  • jack1x

I think cabella could be a different player this season , if played in the right position , but I agree with Thu about the rest with possibly the exception of marveaux , I think good coaching instead of Pardewand carver could be good for him , but Thauvin has a bit more about him strength wise than cabella , and he needs to get in the gym

  • Kazie23

I see what you saying but I’m just a bit worried if his going to be a flop like Ballotelli since his Idol is Ballo himself….But another thing Mitrovic is slow and we all know what happens to slow players

  • Kazie23

I see what you saying but I just don’t want us to buy more french players as we need to get rid of our French Flops first in Gouffrann,Oberton,Marveux,Riviere

  • Polarboy

Kazie23 Actually he is seen as relatively quick for a player of his size. Slow he is definitely not.

  • Kazie23

But then why is his sprint speed in fifa 15 so low??

  • Polarboy

Kazie23 Come on mate FIFA 15 is not what you should be basing your stats on. They might be alright for the big players but there’s no way their stats are totally accurate for every player.

  • Kazie23

True…Because I remember Aarons speed in fifa 14 was 60 something and got upgraded alot in fifa 15

  • magpie9

When he is wearing the team shirt I will believe it
