Yoan Gouffran thinks that the ideas and tactics Steve McClaren is introducing are perfect for this Newcastle squad.

The French striker/midfielder saying that the new Head Coach wants them to pass the ball and he thinks that’s a ‘very good idea’.

Not sure exactly what this says about Alan Pardew’s tactics but I would love to hear the players describe what that was like…

A physical game was also ideal Gouffran believes, with Club Atlas getting stuck in on Tuesday night, with Steve McClaren telling his players at the break that they had to stop standing off them and fight fire with fire.

No surprise then to see a better showing by Newcastle in the second half, although not enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat.

Always hard to tell with pre season games but we all hope that Steve McClaren can get more out of the current set of players than Pardew and Carver could.

Yoan Gouffran talking to the official club website:

“There were some strong tackles and bad kicks but it was good for us, because the Premier League is the same, very tough and physical.

“It is the same type of game and helps get us ready for the new season in England, pre season is all about finding fitness and doing the right things on the pitch. We feel better day after day, week after week and getting fitter, some played 70 minutes tonight and we feel good.”

Different but good:

“It’s different (life under Steve McClaren) but good, they (coaching staff) want to play well and want us to show good things all the time.

“He (McClaren) wants us to pass the ball and that will suit the players we have. It is a very good idea.”

Gouffran wait wait ?! but  “YOUR ” pass to Williamson was shite yesterday and it costed you a goal
You will NEVER learn anything in football

Gouffran & Williamson must be the first ( JUST FIRST ) 2 to leave the club ,

  • brent_dog

Gouffran barely has the quality to tie his shoelaces together, let alone get involved with nice passing moves.

Time we moved this guy on.

  • fireflyuk

brent_dog why would gouffran want to tie his shoelaces together? He can barely run as it is.

  • 1957

Passing the ball suits the players and is a very good idea. Really? I suspect our previous coaching staff might disagree, how can you improve on the tactic of launching the ball up the field to a single sub 6 foot forward marked by two 6 foot plus centre halves with no NUFC player within 20 yards.

  • Atech

hahaha! This article is quality… Thanks for the afternoon giggleYoan and the Editor of course ;)

  • Hughie

Gouffy won’t get into the team–sell please.

  • brent_dog

fireflyuk Aye, but I bet he’s quick enough to run to the bank and collect his undeserved NUFC wages

  • toon tony

What next. ..I can see Steven Taylor coming out with ” It’s a great idea McClaren has told us to put the left boot on the left foot and the right boot on the right foot. !!!!

  • Andgeo

I am absolutely disgusted that Gouffran is back in the team. This is a complete insult to all toon supporters along with the continued presence of the walking debacle that is mike ‘the plank’ Williamson. Having these two in the squad is like banging your head against the wall!!!

  • Andgeo

Tails might struggle with that like!

  • NeilWicks

Andgeo not if you put L and R on the boots ;)

  • LeazesEnder

NeilWicks Andgeo that would still be a problem

  • v0ices

LeazesEnder NeilWicks Andgeo one white boot one black boot and paint his knees the colour to match.

  • Brown Bottle

Everything he says is a direct indictment of Pardew’s attitude to football. Carver was the same. They think pass and move is for pooftahs.

  • Brown Bottle

v0ices LeazesEnder NeilWicks Andgeo …one black one one white one but filled with a piece of shyte one…

  • Brown Bottle

brent_dog fireflyuk …maybe playing this blurt as a striker…that’s why we bought him….and not as anything else…cause he’s shyte at everything else..may be something to consider. Perhaps.

  • Brown Bottle

    Shaker_Shakrah …forgetting Obertan ?

  • Happyharrys2011

I know mighty mike and goofy are shite, but come on Obertan isn’t even a footballer is he? What the Fock is he still doing here? Why don’t they terminate his contract on terms of impersonating a footballer? I seriously think mighty Mike would make a better winger than Obertan!

  • Andgeo

Williamson was still hoofing it down the line against atlas.

  • Andgeo

A “good idea” would be not playing gouffran ever again.

  • Andgeo

    He is in the team.

  • Andgeo

How can we ever forget Oberthing. That trick he does where he actually forgets the ball and just keeps running is something else!!

  • Andgeo

The three of them arnt even good enough for Sunday league. Seriously!
