‘Fans should be buzzing with Steve McClaren but they’re not because politics unchanged’

Newcastle might have found a Head Coach in Steve McClaren but the mood hasn’t improved at St James Park because nothing else has changed.

That’s the view of former Newcastle defender Olivier Bernard who was interviewed on Talksport earlier today.

The former French left-back saying that so far the arrival of the former England boss has been wasted because Mike Ashley has so far failed to invest in any signings.

Summing up the mood of the fanbase, Bernard says that everybody is disheartened due to the lack of action.

I would disagree though with his assertion that ‘nobody expects Newcastle to be in the top 10 after last season’.

I think most fans would believe that that should and could be the minimum if Ashley allowed realistic investment in the team.

Olivier Bernard:

“I think everyone’s disheartened – Steve McClaren should be a good signing and people should be buzzing.

“The fact is the politics haven’t changed because nobody has been signed – there is hope because it’s a fantastic club and he has got a great pedigree, but now they need to start approaching players.”

‘Fans don’t expect much’;

 “Nobody expects Newcastle to be in the top ten after last season, so near mid-table would be good enough.

“I don’t think the fans expect much, they won’t be fighting relegation if they get a couple of the players they are being linked with.”

A ‘couple of players’ Newcastle have been linked with?

Which couple would that be of the 80 odd we’ve been linked with?!!!
