It is now 51 days since United defeated West Ham to ensure Premier League survival and in that intervening period, we make it there have been 96 Newcastle transfer targets.

Out of those 96, NUFC have of course signed one – Georginio Wijnaldum, with now only 26 days to go until Newcastle kick-off against Southampton.

Of the rest, we make it 21 of the other 95 have signed for other clubs this summer (all the targets and signings detailed below).

12 of those 21 signing for other Premier League clubs and 9 for foreign clubs.

Two of the 96 are new additions to the list.

First up is Antonio Rudiger, the 22 year old central defender who plays for Stuttgart.

The Mirror claiming Newcastle are interested in signing the 6ft 3 tall defender who has a handful of international caps.

Secondly, Tuttomercatoweb in Italy reckon that United want to buy centre-forward Stefano Okaka.

The 25 year scored four Serie A goals last season for Sampdoria and five the year before, yet somehow won his first international cap for Italy in November 2014.

To try and keep some kind of order, the players are listed in alphabetical order by surname, then first/other names, the club they are/were at when Newcastle were linked with them, then finally the club they have ended up signing for (if any).

Please let us know of any that we have missed out as we go along and especially if you notice if any on the list actually sign for a club and we haven’t added that information.

Just because a newspaper mentions a player it doesn’t mean it’s true!
    Get a life

  • Jamiekgordon

How to sell a newspaper to a Newcastle supporter…. Just link them with a player, they believe anything!!!!!!

  • Andgeo

What is concerning is the lack of credible central defensive and centre forward rumours. We desperately need two proper centre defenders and the club does not seem to be making a credible effort to get them over the line. Talk of thauvin, Townsend etc is pointless really if we have a pathetic defense again this season.

  • fireflyuk

Jamiekgordon Thats the point of the article. Keep up!

  • DownUnderMag

This happens with all clubs every off season.  The thing is, we are so used to being linked with so few and signing no-one, the fact we obviously need strengthening and Ashley’s rallying cry at the end of the season has seen the media go into overdrive to sell papers.
This is actually a great article, those thinking it is serious need to understand the point it is making.  Just because it’s in the papers it doesn’t mean it’s going to happen or that there is even a tenable link in the first place.  This is just pointing out that the amount of speculation is ludicrous while making sure that we know how little transfer dealings we are still doing.  One player in does not a transfer window make!  The proof of Ashleys “new” direction will only be clear one the window is closed.  If we have our three or four new players in by then i’ll be happy.  If we are staring at the final day of the window with Gini our only acquisition then I can’t think many, (including Gini himself) will be looking at it as a successful window!

Jamiekgordon How is it an embarrassing article, the whole point is to draw attention to the fact that we should not believe paper speculation because thats exactly what it is.

A lot of the time players associate themselves with a club just to increase their potential wages. Teams allow it because it will force other teams to pay more for players than they want. It’s all bs for the most part. Newcastle probably doesn’t even want Mitrovic, they’re just doing a favor for someone to get the price up on him. The one thing you can count on is the money. Which is why when they ceased allowing bets on Charlie Austin’s destination that people know exactly where that will be.
