Newcastle United young star Rolando Aarons has made it two goals in two starts for England.
The NUFC winger started for the England Under 20s against China on Friday, benefitting from manager Aidy Boothroyd’s decision to give other players a chance, with no place in the final of the Toulon tournament to play for.
Aarons had made cameo appearances against both Mexico and the Ivory Coast, but this was his first start since making his debut and scoring in a 6-0 win over Romania back in Septemeber last year.
The Newcastle player made a big impact though against the older Chinese Under 23 side, playing on the left wing, Rolando Aarons beat the opposition right-back time after time.
Making a number of chances for his England teammates, it was Aarons himself who made the breakthrough, scoring from close range a minute before half-time.
England made it 2-0 early in the second half before China pulled a goal back in the 54th minute and Rolando Aarons was then subbed a minute later.
With England needing a two goal or better winning margin to make the 3rd/4th play-off, they managed it thanks to an own goal in the 59th minute.
England, and potentially Aarons on this performance, will line up against the USA in that battle for third place, whilst France face Morocco in the final.
The main thing for Newcastle fans will be seeing Rolando Aarons safely completing the tournament and then preparing for pre-season with United.
The winger’s previous start for England last September saw him return with the hamstring injury which was the trigger for a season long campaign blighted by injury problems.
