Cheick Tiote’s agent has met officials from Trabzonspor over a potential move for the Newcastle midfielder, according to the Turkish media.

Turkish Super Lig broadcaster Lig TV say that the Turkish club, who finished fifth last season, have switched attention to Tiote after free agent Stephane Mbia’s wage demands proved too much.

Trabzonspor are looking to invest this summer as they eye the Champions League spots.

Tiote turned 29 on Sunday and just like 30 year old Papiss Cisse, my money is on Mike Ashley banking the cash if he can get an acceptable offer.

Increasingly injury prone and having made a number of appearances near the front of newspapers recently, rather than the rear, Cheick Tiote only started 10 Premier League matches last season.

There have been no public updates on his injury/recovery situation, with Tiote not having played since picking up a knee injury when away on African Cup of Nations duty in January.

With two years left on his contract and one of Newcastle’s biggest wage earners, I’m pretty sure most fans wouldn’t mind Tiote moving on, IF the transfer fee and saved wages are then added to what we all hope (though few of us expect) is a significant transfer kitty this summer.

The players are due back to pre season training in only eight days time and assuming no moves actually happen…

It will be interesting to see what state of fitness the likes of Tiote, Cisse and de Jong are in with only 17 days as well to the first pre season friendly.

Bring on the fire sale, gotta balance those books (in Mikes favour as always).

Good player in a poor team. Like to see him stay as with a few decent buys playing along side him would come good again.  Land of hope and no glory.

german media: “The newspaper also reported that Newcastle would be looking for as much as £4m for the player and now  Hamburg have made an offer of over £3m for Tiote.”

So if all the reports are to be believed we are getting rid of Cisse, Tiote and possibly Krul, still interest floating around for Sissoko and Janmaat with no sign of anyone coming the other way.
I am wondering if Ashley plans on just selling as many players as he can, buy no-one and grab next years TV money sending the club down before selling???  You can’t think anything else with the way things are being run at the moment.

I wouldn’t mind letting Cisse and Tiote go but only for better and younger replacements….But why aren’t we selling Colocini,Williamson,Anita,Marveux,Gouffrann,Oberton,Sammy Ameobi and Riviere instead

  • Kazie23

I think it’s time for him to move on but only for a good younger replacement

  • NotFatFreddy

Overrated, poor in possession…hence not even a top premiership club interested.  Same goes for Krul, if Man U don’t go for him, then even his fellow Dutch don’t rate him!  Time to cash in on Cisse whilst he has transfer value.  Interesting to see if Pardew has interest in any of (his) the current squad

  • DownUnderMag There is sense in what you say . Ashley said in his interview that he wouldn’t be leaving before winning silver ware. Considering even he thought we were going down , he meant winning the Championship at the first attempt , grabbing the T V money and then flogging off what was left, with his self respect [ in his eyes only ] intact.
