Rubbish Newcastle transfer news: 82 targets – 63 days to go
Welcome to our daily rubbish Newcastle transfer news service, featuring all the players NUFC are ‘buying’ (including proposed loan deals) this summer.
We will update each day and try to keep you abreast of all these exciting transfers that aren’t going to happen (as well as the handful that hopefully will…).
Yesterday brought an amazing total blank, in terms of not only Newcastle not buying any players, but also even being linked with any.
Today has partially made up for that – still no signings of course but a flurry of new players linked with NUFC.
The three new names bring the running total up to 82 targets with 63 days remaining (Pre season starts tomorrow and only 10 days until the first friendly).
First up is Lucas Ocampos, a 20 year old winger from Argentina who currently plays for Monaco. Arriving from River Plate for £6m as an 18 year old, Ocampos has scored 17 goals in France from 111 appearances, though the majority have been from the bench, including while on loan at Marseille in the second-half of last season. Italian website TMW claim that Newcastle have moved ahead of Fiorentina and AS Roma who are reported to have been watching the player for a long time.
Next we have another winger in the shape of Nathan Dyer.
The Welsh media report Newcastle interest in Dyer and ironically Swansea may be ready to sell, partly due to landing supposed long-term United target Andre Ayew. Since Swansea arrived in the Premier League four years ago, Nathan Dyer has been involved in most matches but as well as starting 96, he has also came off the bench 34 times.
He invariably plays well against Newcastle and as well as creating goals he has scored 17 goals from the wing over the course of those four seasons, which would make him look pretty prolific compared to Newcastle’s wide men.
Finally today, Senegal international midfielder Idrissa Gueye is also a name put forward as a potential Newcastle signing.
The 25 year old was a teammate of both Yohan Cabaye and Mathieu Debuchy at Lille and has gradually worked his way into becoming a first choice player in midfield for the last couple of years, after alternating between bench and starting eleven previously.
To try and keep some kind of order, the players are listed in alphabetical order by surname, then first/other names, the club they are/were at when Newcastle were linked with them, then finally the club they have ended up signing for (if any).
Please let us know of any that we have missed out as we go along and especially if you notice if any on the list actually sign for a club and we haven’t added that information.
