Newcastle player announces he’s signing for a new club this afternoon
Newcastle defender Remie Streete has announced that he will be signing for a new club this afternoon.
After an injury blighted loan spell at Rangers, Streete’s current deal at Newcastle runs out at the end of June and with no new deal offered, his next club won’t be liable to pay development compensation for the young defender.
Using his Twitter account, Remie Streete put up the following message on Sunday night:
“I will be signing for my new club tomorrow afternoon #NewStart.”
Turning 21 in November, the centre-back grew up in South Shields and was regularly touted as one fo Newcastle’s best young players.
However, despite the local press in particular talking up his prospects, the closest Remie Streete came to first team football was sitting on the bench for three Premier League matches.
The defender impressed in a short loan spell at Port Vale earlier last season and their owner Norman Smurthwaite announced over the weekend that a new signing was imminent, leading many people to put two and two together after Streete’s Twitter message.
Like all those released by Newcastle this summer, good luck to the young defender and it will be interesting to see how his career progresses, especially when it is an area of the team where Newcastle have struggled so badly in recent years.
Whether Streete could have done a job this season is something we will never know, though it is hard to see that he could have done any worse considering Newcastle conceded more goals than any other Premier League club, with the exception of rock bottom QPR.
