Lee Clark has thrown his hat into the ring, in the hope of clinching a coaching role in the new set-up at St James Park.

With Steve McClaren expected to be announced as Newcastle’s new manager/head coach any time soon, the sackings of Steve Stone and John Carver have ensured there will be major changes in personnel.

Asked by the Shields Gazette about speculation regarding himself and his old club, Lee Clark said that he would love to be involved under Steve McClaren at the club he supported as a boy and of course played for.

Clarkie has already coached at Newcastle after being appointed to the role by Glenn Roeder back in 2006, when he was also still playing for NUFC.

Lee Clark:

“I don’t know whether it is speculation, or anything else.

“I am an ex-player at Newcastle and I have been a manager and a coach, but whether Steve wants me to be part of his set-up – we will just have to wait and see.”

Love to be part of it:

“For any lad who has been connected with the club, you would love to be part of it in any way, shape or form.

“For me, whether people are putting two and two together because I am out of work, I am not sure.”

Is Clarkie morphing into Steve Bruce?

  • Paul Patterson

A question to anyone who wants him at the club.

If he wasn’t a Geordie, would you have him at the club?

  • ncncnc

certainly dont think it hurts to have someone with a connection to the club on the staff
he’s got a decent amount of coaching experience as well

  • tynetalk21

    Paul Patterson
When he was at Huddersfield his young side was a joy to watch (his more than 50 games unbeaten is still a record)
So , in answer to your question , the fact he is a Wallsend lad and played for the Toon is incidental , he has walked the walk.

  • wor monga

Why not?…McClaren will bring his own coaching team for sure,
but Clarkie would be worth having some input from, even if it’s only til he gets
    fixed up with another club…

…he was an integral member of our best team in recent years
under Keegan, he’s a local lad who’s always loved the club, and knows what’s
expected of players here to do well!!

  • The Vicar

Let’s see, 50 games unbeaten. Sounds good.

  • radgiegadgie

Yeah, he’s a geordie, must be a good idea to have him coach at the club

  • Paul Patterson

tynetalk21  I’m not against having him at the club, but I see everybody born within 5 miles of St James’ Park get linked with a role and you think, really?

I like Lee but just because he’s a Geordie doesn’t mean you have a right to be at the club.

Look at John Carver, Steve Stone and Steven Taylor . .

  • GToon

If he got the players playing the same quick passing game that he prospered in i would be delighted. I bet Anita and Cabella and a few others too would relish the chance to play the Clarkie way too.

  • Happyharrys2011

I would rather have him than the smug McLaren. How far we have fell when people are talking on here as if this is a positive thing. My goodness, Jabba has after all these years killed the true Geordie spirit. Sack the board!!!!!

  • SGM

Happyharrys2011 Hes not on the board anymore, or did you miss that one?

  • SGM

wor monga “Local lad” who “loves the club” Im sure I’ve heard that one before.

  • Happyharrys2011

Oh so you want to keep those nodding dogs as well as Ashley.

  • Timptoon

    Happyharrys2011 Sack the nodding dogs.

  • stepaylor

Happyharrys2011 give them a chance mate, nothing else we can do really

  • Timptoon

wor monga What worries me is that the coaching team McLaren brings with him is the same one that failed to get Derby out of the Championship. Hardly inspiring. Of course this could be the chance to put together a new, dynamic coaching team drawing together the best football tacticians from across the continent …
… or he could just give the job to his mate.

  • Happyharrys2011

Yeah there is, don’t just sit and take it. Stand up and fight for what you want. I want a team that has a go and try’s its best for the football team not the bank balance.
    EVERYTHING else is irrelevant!!!!

  • stepaylor

Happyharrys2011 likie i said give them a chance this summer to see what the level of player brought in is first and maybe let Mclaren play a game before being against him. Have you been married before?

  • Exiledintoon

tynetalk21 Posh took them apart in League 1 play off final and exposed Clarke’s lack of a Plan B. Bakersfield only recovered after they sacked him
