Following his much talked about release by Newcastle United, there are now reports that Jonas Gutierrez is interesting River Plate.
The South American giants have a game in hand and are currently three points behind San Lorenzo (the team Coloccini supports) in second place at the top of the league in Argentina.
With 13 games played, River Plate and the rest of the Argentine clubs will shortly be going into a mid-season break.
Amongst others, Argentine football website Golazo Argentino report that River Plate have a serious interest in Jonas and have the extra carrot of the semi-final of the Copa Libertadores when the clubs return after their break.
Jonas previously picked up a league title win in his final season at Velez Sarsfield in 2005 before his move to Europe.
Previously though Jonas Gutierrez had stated:
“There are many factors for me to return, but having played all the way through the youth sides and first team before leaving, I can’t see myself playing for a team other than Velez (Sarsfield).”
At the moment Velez are way off the pace in 18th spot in the league.
