The Alan Shearer statue should be ready in around six month which would make it around Christmas time.

The 9ft bronze tribute to the Newcastle legend is the work of Tom Maley and the question is where to put it.

The great man himself has told the Chronicle that he would like to see them stick his likeness outside the Gallowgate End, though more than a few fans wouldn’t have minded seeing it stuck inside the Gallowgate End penalty area this past season.

The statue would have got more minutes on the pitch than Facundo Ferreyra and arguably a few more goals than Emmanuel Riviere, plus surely it would have been a better option than launching the ball to Mike Williamson in improving our set-piece conversion ratio…

Alan Shearer speaking to the Chronicle:

“I will have to speak to the necessary guys who are going to make the decision but I think if I had my choice, it would be behind the Gallowgate for sure.”

Any better ideas of where to stick it?

    Up a certain lying fatty’s ar5e.

  • michaelhodg67

Awas going to post that but you beat me to it

  • LeazesEnder

It looks almost human….. I had no idea that Kevin Keegan sculpted it

  • toonterrier

If its ready for Xmas why not put it outside Fenwicks window. Lots of people will stop and look at it and then maybe put it outside Blackburns ground where he won trophies and well away from the fat man who would probably charge people to look at it.

  • Porciestreet

Stick it outside Old Trafford with a sign on saying “This is what ya coulda won…Ha Ha Ha ..

  • GToon

On the pitch. It would still be better than some of what we have upfront. And it could defend a corner too.

  • IntravenusMP

It’s a bit naff, not really sure what he achieved with us, reality is i think we went backwards after signing Shearer

  • NufcToon

Lost a bar here have a statue. Will have a sports direct sticker on it in no time

  • GToon

Aye, he was just another Rivière!

  • Crawcrooklad

What a non-article – then I saw the author and realised I shouldn’t have bothered to open this particular “story”

  • v0ices

IntravenusMP lucky for us your love ashley is pushing us in one direction now.

  • AP69

Intravenous I know you didn’t have any association with the club until the fat mess bought it but Alan did live the dream and managed a couple of goals

  • whickhamrobbie

Does it have hair ? or is it bald ?Put it in his big hoose garden for the birds to sH%t on.
This obsession with statues is ridiculous Bobby,Jackie yes . Shearer no   who next ? Micky Quinn ?

  • Demented_Man

IntravenusMP Totally agree.  Shearer was rubbish really, and he held back the genius of Shola.

  • toonterrier

Put it in your shed until we get a change of owner. If its put outside the ground the large one will change the name to Our Number Nine within months.

  • IntravenusMP

Not really the point I was making, of course he was a great player but he’s certainly no more deserving of a statue than Pedro for instance (although he left for Liverpool)

  • NottsToon

Yes, the Premier Leagues all time record goal scorer, who captained club and country, entertained a generation and showed unwavering loyalty to his home city in the face of more lucrative and trophy laden career moves certainly does not warrant honouring.
Shut up you complete fool, go back to your magic calculator.

  • IntravenusMP

NottsToon Deary me, name-calling is a little silly. Yep, Shearer was a great striker for NUFC but don;t give me the loyalty thing. He joined us instead of Manure because he thought we had just as good a chance of greatness as they did.

I’d sooner see a statue of KK, Joe Harvey or Hughie Gallagher. Shearer is only 1/2 way trough his life, it’s not really the time for statues.

  • NottsToon

IntravenusMP NottsToon Premier Leagues all time top scorer, local legend and you want to wait until he’s older to honour him why?

  • IntravenusMP

Because, say KK has done it as player and maNager (as did joe Harvey or Pedro is at least a coach) and imho is more deserving.I also just don’t swallow the Shearer legend. Also, to those outside Tyneside, it just looks a little desperate. As a region we gave the world steam locomotion, the steam turbine, the lightbulb etc but we have more statues fore footballers than anything else and we’re adding one who won nothing with NUFC and took us down as manager.

  • GToon

I wish we had a team full of under performers like Shearer. After reading your comments I now know where I would like to stick the statue.

  • v0ices

GToon i think he really likes being unpopular plus his love ashley seems to dislike shearer too.

  • NottsToon

It’s a statue created by a football fan for football fans, not train fans or lightbulb fans. I’ll say it again, all time Premier League top goal scorer and local legend.
Your opinion might be a personal one, but it’s a bit daft.

  • Wait and shteve

Pedro is a Shyte coach, top player but Shyte coach! Look at our u21 record to see…. Shearer is a legend for toon. Who’s goal scoring record will not be beaten for years to come, the fact he is a local adds more weight to the argument, I know it’s only your opinion and like @rseholes we all have one, but I disagree massively on this one
