A desperate Mike Ashley extends season ticket deadline for second time and writes to fans

The deadline for Newcastle United season ticket renewals was originally towards the end of May.

On 28 May the club announced that this deadline was being extended with supporters told they now had until Wednesday 10 June to renew.

Despite fans having been sent their renewal packs way back in March the 28 May club statement included the line:

“…supporters are advised to return their forms quickly to avoid disappointment.”

Whilst Mike Ashley has eventually brought in a manager/head coach after six months of chaos and the club on the slide, there appears to have been no stampede for season tickets.

With less than eight weeks until the season kicks off and only 17 days until pre season training begins, there is still no sign of any signings being made, with only the usual nonsense appearing in the press claiming big signings imminent and many supporters fearing it is just the usual propaganda being pushed by the club to get them to sign up for another season.

Newcastle United have now written to supporters (see letter below put up on Twitter by one fan @youngin_uk) following Steve McClaren’s appointment and are trying to use that as a hook to get the stay away fans to renew.

The latest letter including this line

“….looking ahead to the 2015/16 campaign with genuine optimism and excitement.”

The letter tells fans that the season ticket deadline is extended even further –  to 19 June.

We’d love to have ‘genuine optimism and excitement’ but simply appointing a manager/head coach won’t do it alone.

It will be interesting to see if any players arrive in these next five days, or whether it will be just more of the same.

Endlessly linked with big name credible players but nothing of real substance.

Let’s hope we see some transfer action quickly, even if it is only to try and convince the doubters that there is a chance of any real change under Mike Ashley.
