Papiss Cisse replaced by Demba Ba for June fixture

Despite proving his fitness will the full 90 minutes against West Ham on Sunday, Papiss Cisse has been cast aside by his country.

The one-time Senegal Captain and key striker, Papiss Cisse hasn’t even made the 23 man squad for an African Nations qualifier against Burundi on 13 June.

Instead,  Senegal head coach Aliou Cissé has surprisingly chosen Demba Ba to make a rare international appearance, and the former Newcastle forward is expected to play up front alongside FC Sion’s Moussa Konata.

This latest blow to Papiss Cisse has arrived after a season blighted by injuries, suspensions and persistent speculation of a move away from Tyneside.

Demba Ba turned 30 on Monday and Papisse joins him when he makes it to 30 next Wednesday.

Whether he will still be in Newcastle’s colours when the season kicks off in August must be open to serious doubt, with every chance Mike Ashley will be keen to cash in before his value falls further, plus to get yet another high earner off the wage bill.
