Who are Newcastle United’s most valuable players?

Who would you keep above the rest?

(To feature like Dale, send in your articles for our website to [email protected])

I have gone through the whole of the Newcastle United squad to try and be positive, see which players can be the starting point to build on for the (hopefully) credible new manager that will come in this summer.

It wasn’t easy and much of it was on a wing and a prayer that I managed to come up with 13 players that I would like to keep.

Some like Siem de Jong and Rolando Aarons we have little to go on.

Others such as Cheick Tiote and Tim Krul you have to put a lot of faith in that they can bounce back to their best form.

Then some such as Moussa Sissoko you must hope they can be as bothered as he looked on that final day of the season, rather than much that had gone before.

These are the 13 in the order that I would be most gutted if they left:

Ayoze Perez

Daryl Janmaat

Papiss Cisse

Siem de Jong

Moussa Sissoko

Jack Colback

Cheick Tiote

Tim Krul

Rolando Aarons

Jonas Gutierrez

Massadio Haidara

Adam Armstrong

Paul Dummett

As for the rest…

To be quite honest they could load pretty much most of these into a skip and cart them off but being realistic we can’t hope to get rid of them all at once.

Some such as Mehdi Abeid and one or two others could maybe do a job if given the chance and/or found some confidence or managed a step up thanks to some decent coaching.

Again in order of who I’d keep first, or looking at the other direction, Rob Elliot would be the first one chucked in the skip:

Mehdi Abeid

Sylvain Marveaux

Fabricio Coloccini

Haris Vuckic

Remy Cabella

Steven Taylor

Sammy Ameobi

Ryan Taylor

Mike Williamson

Emmanuel Riviere

Gabriel Obertan

Yoan Gouffran

Vurnon Anita

Rob Elliot

Siem DeJong ? Has he kicked a ball for us ?

  • mentalman

Abeid has been our best midfielder when he has played had Carver played him instead of Ryan Taylor we probably wouldn’t have been playing for our survival in the last match.
Anita can cut it when played in the right system
Marveaux and vuckic haven’t been given an opportunity to show what they can do
Again cabella will come good played in the right system
As for armstrong I’ve seen nothing that shows he’s good enough for the epl, he’s going to need a few seasons at a lower level before you can decide whether to keep him or not.
Haidara Is another one who hasn’t really shown much he’s weak in defence and isn’t much better going forward

Couldn’t argue with your selections Dale I think you are spot on.

  • truemagpie

i think Mehdi Abeid still has a future .. may turn out to be another Fraser Forster

You are about right with most but would like to see a decent manager give the players a decent chance first, not just playing time but coached properly too. Capella,

Good topic of discussion but Williamsonshpuld be on a list all on his own!

  • Paul Patterson

Er Cheick Tiote? Siem De Jong? Moussa Sissoko?
Two haven’t didn’t kick a ball for six months at a time and Sissoko downed tools (along with a few others) for another seemingly never ending spell . .

Abeid just must stay. Tiote is phasing out

  • Steve1221

Abeid put in a couple of shocking performances before being dropped.

  • crediblejustin736

You mean falling over against man utd? Every great player has slipped before. John terry, Steven Gerard

  • Steve1221

No I mean being atrocious for 90 minutes against Man U

  • Timptoon

There’s none of them I’d shed a tear for if they left but I would still like to see how a few of them manage with good coaching/management and in a stronger squad. Cabella, Abeid, Marveaux and Vuckic will have successful careers somewhere so why not with us. On the other hand, Tiote, Anita, Saylor, Colo, Williamson, Obertan, Gouffran and Sammy have had plenty of chances to impress and rarely reached the standard.

    I’d hold on to these:
    Mehdi Abeid
    Fabricio Coloccini
    Remy Cabella
    Steven Taylor
    Emmanuel Riviere
    Vurnon Anita
They’ve all still got more to offer, if managed / coached right

You’d rather keep Ryan Taylor, Obertan, Williamson and Riviere above Anita?
