Sunday brought relief for Newcastle fans but Alan Shearer has produced the perfect challenge to Mike Ashley.

The club owner made a surprise pre-match appearance on Sky Sports but Alan Shearer has laid on the line just how shocking the club has been run under his control.

The United legend telling Mike Ashley that ‘actions speak louder than words’ as we wait to see whether the reality of this summer will be any different to what has gone before.

Alan Shearer speaking on Sunday night’s Match of The Day:

‘What I would say is…

Stop selling your best players.

Play your best teams in the cup competitions and give the fans a little bit of hope.

There was a time when Newcastle didn’t sign a player for 18 months, so that isn’t really acceptable.

How can you second guess the guy – Mike Ashley, he’s the guy who…

Hired Joe Kinnear.

He sacked Kevin Keegan.

He sacked Sam Allardyce.

He brought in Dennis Wise as Director of Football.

I know this City, I know the football club and I know John Carver…and I haven’t got a clue what he is going to do.

Actions speak louder than words and time will only tell.

What I do know is that that football club has to give the fans something to shout about because they are going to games, and have been for a long time, because it is habit.

Not because of hope, not because of excitement, because of habit – that has to change.’

City Hall Gifts -

  • I switched off after Carver, in his post-match interview, appeared to blame the fans for him losing 9 games out of 10.
    What a numpty!

  • Toon Terrier

He actually did us a favour hiring Carver. The decline has brought protests and the club onto the national stage with a lot of criticism. If Pardew had stayed and we finished 12th do you think he would be making statements ? Let’s see if leopards change their spots.

  • Andgeo

The first thing they need to do is to appoint a manager. This needs to be a high profile figure befitting one of the largest football clubs in Europe. Why should we have to compromise or accept anything less and no more of this head coach crap.
The perfect candidate is Keegan; but the fat man has let himself down badly on this score.
Next on the list is Shearer; but that could be a Bridge too far for the fat man now too.
    Go for Klopp!!
Then the manager needs to be given a transfer budget of whatever the fat man owes us for all the advertising, let’s say £160m for the 8 years, plus the money in the bank and surplus TV revenue, let’s say £200m+
Ashley either needs to get involved himself to get things done or needs to invest in a really good high profile manager and back him.
The worst situation is leaving the clubs future in the hands of second rate chumps like charnley and carver.
Put your money where your mouth is or get out of our club.

  • Lofty9

A proper board of directors, not yes men. A CE or MD who has some football knowledge. A progressive coach. A transfer policy which enables the club to build a squad and not have to rebuild it every other year when the ‘big clubs’ come sniffing. Basic stuff Mr Ashley, nowt ground breaking and if you can’t understand that then that’s why we need the things mentioned above. We’ll be watching.

  • Andgeo

Or he could just get out of our club which could save us all a load of hassle. We havnt got another 8 years!!!
Keegan as director of football and Klopp as manager would be perfect. No more charver or chumpleys please!!!?

  • NottsToon

Ashley, Keegan and Shearer will never work together again, so we can file that dream away with lottery wins and unicorns. Not going to happen.

  • Lofty9

Andgeo Couldn’t agree more bloke. Keegan as Director of Football sounds good! Does anyone know if Charnley is a local lad? If he is, he needs to remember what this club has been and could be with a bit of imagination.

  • Ron Knee

Lofty9 Andgeo Charnley was born in Lancashire.

  • alreet

Keegan admitted that ash wasnt the worst it was the southern t***ers he had around him that made the sh*t for him. Wise and the former kit boy jimenez.
Keegan couldnt be a better choice as director or md. Keep charnely if u like to do the negotiation but keegan has proved that connections in football count. It will never happen because it makes sense.
Klopp is my perfect coach or moyes as second choice but it may very well be mclaren coz hes now free.
Carver dones need getting rid. Hes been here too long and we need a clean slate.
Ash said we have the cart (money) now all we need is the horse and we can now make our own luck. Well get on with it mike. Head coach in the next 2 week the n rebuild fast.
    How will that go???

  • Sickandtiredstill

What’s his actual ambition? If qualifying for the CL is the height of winning something, well, we are many times winners already and long before his ownership arrived.
Said it yesterday and I’ll say it again – the Club simply cannot move forward under the current structure nor with Ashley’s bizarre recruitment policies. As much as he is against it, he needs to do exactly what he fights against. Employ ambitious, proven, experienced football professionals in the MD, Dir of Football and Manager/Coach positions. No more Jimenez, Llambias, Wise or Charnley’s. No more Kinnears, Pardew’s or Carvers.
He hasn’t reinvented the game nor ownership of a Club – his efforts have largely been destructive which should tell anyone with half a mind that his plans don’t work.
Stop recruiting cronies, mates, and Yes men. The model of Charnley, Carr, and a Coach doesn’t work and will never work.
And based on that brief interview – it’s plain to see why the guy never speaks in public!

  • Margaret Reay

His statement didn’t fool anyone least of all Big Al!!!

  • Lofty9

Ron Knee Lofty9 Andgeo Cheers Ron.

  • magpiefifer

A lot of accurate, incisive points from Shearer – unlike Souness & Co who talked drivel on Sky.
What a bitter sweet day yesterday – a win securing Prem status, but Ashley’s interview spoiling the enjoyment.
Why has it taken Ashley 8 years to say anything on camera!?Will he put his money where his gob is!?He was proven to be a liar at Keegan’s tribunal so why should we believe anything he says?He spoke of continuing with investing in NUFC – sorry, have I missed something!?It’s in his DNA to make loadsamoney and he isn’t going to change his tack anytime soon.
If we are stuck with Ashley until ‘the club wins something’,sadly I’ll be dead – but at least I was alive when we won 3 FA Cups and the Fairs Cup!!!

  • hettonmag

Over to you fat boy you have made a statement,  all the media is watching this space, you can make a good start by getting rid of all the awful coaching staff,  the incompetent  Chumley  who  knows nothing about football he is an accountant nothing else he can’t even speak to the media. The football  world is watching you Cashley, we no what you are like now go and prove us wrong.

  • TonnekToon
