As always Kevin Keegan is bang on the money in his assessment of Mike Ashley.

Speaking passionately about Newcastle United, Keegan says that the fans don’t deserve what the club owner has inflicted upon them and says the dream scenario is staying up AND Ashley selling the club.

The (twice) former manager talked about having the ‘misfortune’ to work with some of Ashley’s people when he was at Newcastle for the second time and says that the mood is universal that now is the time for him to sell up.

Speaking to Radio 5 Live, Kevin Keegan said:

“It will be a nerve jangling day and the fans don’t deserve it. I hope and pray they get a result against West Ham and then something good happens, with Mike Ashley selling because he doesn’t understand the club.

“It is not difficult to work out unless you come from another planet and I think Mike Ashley runs that club from another planet.

“Fans are being treated with such disrespect. It is almost as if Mike Ashley has said, ‘what is the worst I can do, change St James’s Park and call it Sports Direct’. Incredible. Fans don’t want to go to games, they want to protest.

“The answer is not to boycott the game, but to get through the season, stay up, hope and pray someone with lot of money who cares about the club comes along and says, ‘that’s for me’.

“They need to sit down with sensible people, not those that Mike Ashley put around him in the past. I had the misfortune to work with some of them.

“It is not just me urging him to go, everybody connected with that club, even people employed there. It is time for a change.”

    Yes- Jesus Christ YES!
    What genius.

  • Chemical Dave

    King Kev, nothing to add.

  • bringbackthemessiah

i was talking to someone the other day about ashley and they laughed at me when i said until all the fans or the biggest part of them dont go to matches dont spend money in stadium, shop,no season ticket renewals boycott sports direct he will keep at the club its the same as if you play the lottery with the same numbers all the time if you keep winning every now and then good you keep the numbers if you play all the time and never win anything you would change numbers wont you as they dont work

  • Bornunderabigbluestar

I heard the full interview this morning, everything KK said was spot on, well said

  • Alltomuch

Please respect our club and go Ashley
The loan has been paid in other ways hasn’t it.
Not paying for your tacky advertising every year etc
Listen to king Kev and go £200 million is plenty when you take into account the cost of putting back together a squad that you have stripped for money.
    Just go

  • A lex

Listening to him speak – how good did that make you feel??
Close your eyes for a second and just think of the lift and feeling we’d get if, in some capacity, he walked through the door again.

  • Toon Magpie

He want success at the club and he is right. Ashley out and Newcastle to stay up.

  • mirandinha9

Keegan loves the club and always will unlike Ashley. The problem is I’m already seeing fans comments saying they are appreciative of the fact that Ashley, has today, spoke of his intention to spend money and win something. Be careful fools. This man has been in charge for 8 years now and has no intention to do this. Fundamentally, he just wants people to ‘buy into it’, acquire further season tickets, whilst, he walks off smiling again, safe in the knowledge that he’s got his revenue for another year.

  • ilullissat

Question,do you want Newcastle to successed.Answer.It will never happen with the current owner

  • Toon Magpie

mirandinha9 It looks that way, only hoping he proves us wrong and properly invest not just buy replacements for players leavings but good quality players and a proper manager£60-£100 million investment into the club.

  • Toon Magpie

Alltomuch £200 million? not a chance with Ashley dream on.

  • Andgeo

The fat man chose his words carefully “CONTINUE to invest in the club”
And also dodged the question about the manager position.
The guy hasn’t got a clue. Making a success of a football club needs
    1) ambition
    2) serious investment
The problem here is Fatty’s definition of investment means making money not spending it!!

  • Andgeo

    Ashley out!!!

  • ilullissat

The reason that Ashley gave the interview when. he did was because he was backed into a corner by King Kevs interview and that he didnt want a sit in at SJP.The fans are being taken for fools

  • ilullissat

mirandinha9 How many of these people would walk into a shop and if the shop owner took the piss out of them several times, would still shop there

  • MikeAshleyAteMyHamster

Agree 100%. Anyone thinking Ashley’s policy will change is severely deluded. More of the same next season.

  • Toon Magpie

It isn’t a shop, it is football.

  • Toon Magpie

bringbackthemessiah once you change numbers the numbers could come up. Who wants to change their numbers anyway, I am staying with Newcastle United numbers , they will come one day, glory seekers will be off but who cares about them, jump ship at the slightest leak.

  • Toon Magpie

A lex it isn’t going to happen, he will not come back whilst Ashley is roaming the club.

  • v0ices

Toon Magpie A lex lucky ashley is a proven liar.

  • NotFatFreddy

You can see where it is going, as he thinks winning something is equivalent to finishing 4th.  AS he has no intention of going anywhere until we win something (e.g. 4th) then you can sense that finishing mid table is what we can always expect as his ambition.  Carver says winning against WHU was like winning the cup.

Methinks we have fallen so low that our expectations are more like Bolton when they had Big Sam. Don’t go down and anything above is a bonus, but in a million years you won’t finish 4th!

Let’s hope there is a decent Manager and he is given money and he doesn’t waste it.  At least give us some excitement.

    Jonas=PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

Steven Taylor must be absolved of any blame as we were in the giddy heights when he got injured, he must be better than you think as we look at the league table after!

  • stevennodlehs

Ashley must be laughing all the way to the bank again in the knowledge that nufc fans won’t do anything to make him change the way he rules the club.
He has you all over a barrel and isn’t above sacrificing the team to keep the fans under control.
Does anybody have any new ideas on how to push through change or will we witness the same “effort” next season, with the same mediocre squad of fillers and misfits?

  • stevennodlehs

The only good thing about Ashley is my fatty fetishism
