Jonas Gutierrez has said that he is ‘proud to be a Geordie’ and he feels really lucky to be back playing football, after thinking he may never play again only a few months ago.

After scoring the second goal that effectively sealed Newcastle United’ safety, Jonas says that the supporters deserve better than a relegation struggle and the club should be top ten.

Summing up the current mess at St.James’ Park, the Argentine winger says that ‘Newcastle is bigger than this’.

Jonas Gutierrez speaking to Sky Sports:

“Since I arrived at Newcastle the fans were fantastic with me and the team. To be honest, they (the fans) don’t deserve to have this problem, this situation, Newcastle is bigger than this.

“You have to look forward, this club has to look forward, the top ten and not looking at the bottom.”

Proud to be a Geordie:

“To be honest, a few months ago I didn’t know if I was going to play football again and now I am back, I’m playing football, I have a second chance in my life.

“I am really proud to be a Geordie and it was fantastic to be here today.”

Having played a central role in such a pivotal game, it is ridiculous if Mike Ashley doesn’t offer Jonas at least a one or two year contract.

Considering just how short the squad is of both numbers and quality, if Jonas Gutierrez was good enough for this relegation decider, surely he is worth a place in next season’s squad ahead of all but a handful of players.

Hope Jonas stays….loyalty, skill, commitment and enthusiasm for the team and the region are in short supply these days….

  • paulmc4084

After the fatguy finally admitted accountability for this shambles, wouldn’t it be nice to be singing “Ashley is a Geordie” in five years time……………?…………….no, no……………I have to go and take my medication…………..

  • LeazesEnder

markmiwurdz Those are also Carvers qualities…admirable but not enough!

  • Bornunderabigbluestar

Thankyou Jonas, I thought you were immense this afternoon, you deserve better

  • Andgeo

Fatty. Get rid of the second rate puppets charnley and charver. Beg Keegan to be director of football and install Klopp as manager. Pay them what they want, give them £200m and let them get on with it; they will double your money in 3 years. £200m might seem a lot but it is roughly what you have had in free advertising over the years.

  • LeazesEnder

    paulmc4084 …. No

  • toonterrier

Without doubt the man of the match. Pity he wasn’t subbed in the last couple of minutes so he could get the send off he deserved. Never stopped running all game and his best game for a long time. Another good display by Anita who was applauded off. Sissoko scored a goal which helped get the win we needed but otherwise did very little. Cisse had a poor game but its the result that count. Probably the best atmosphere and noise for a couple of years. Still need big changes in the summer but whether we get them is another matter.
Pleased with the win now lets build on it.

LeazesEnder markmiwurdz Carver has skill at what?  Looking like an aging lesbian?

  • grahame49

What ever Jonas does in the future are where ever he is he has my best wishes, plus big respects to the bairns and lasses who sang their hearts out in block u and v gallowgate, Geordie’s looking down with John and I an will have been proud you

  • Big Al 1967

1957 For me to offer Jonas a contract would not be based on sentiment. Do not get me wrong in a perfect world he should not make the first eleven however as a squad player on a one year contract he can be invaluable as he can play in a number of positions so when the inevitable injuries and suspensions occur we have a player who can step in.
The added bonus is he can play a bit and clearly cares for the club unlike the vast number of his current  teammates.
However in light of his pathetic and scandalous treatment by the club I would fully expect him to be shown the door almost immediately

  • safcftm

Congratulations to the mags. Well deserved and although we hate each other as fans yous deserve it… Passionate fans as we are at safc. Both sets of fans don’t deserve it. Again, well done lads

  • GToon

There were some decent performances today but without wanting to be a misery didnt the players just do what they should have done? Anita was everywhere and always first to the ball. But shouldn’t he always be? Same for Colo and Willo. Jonas was great today and gave everything. Cisse lead the line and tracked back but shouldn’t he always do that, same for Rivierre. Like I say, I don’t want to be a misery but a lot of what I saw today I expect to see regardless of the importance of the game.

  • andewalsh

Suckers will be bought off b this….

  • GToon

Spot on. Let’s see what the new Ashley does with him. Sells him probably!

  • LeazesEnder

    Big Al 1967 1957 Yeah I’d go with that…..

  • Toon Magpie

Jonas was fantastic. Great goal lovely to see him come back from cancer work his way into the team and get the final goal of season.

  • Toon Magpie

It was very loud on TV the cheering and the songs could be heard wish it could be like that every week and if the players performed like that it will be.

  • Albert27

Jonas played in his old position of left winger for first time in years. And he played a blinder. Great cross on his wrong foot and a goal – has anyone done that this season.Give him a contract. He deserves one.

  • grahame49

Good to hear it came accross , behind the team for 93 mins then in unplanned union get out of our club

  • A lex

Andgeo Nail on the head there, Andgeo. This club has so much potential, it’s frightening. Just takes a commitment to release it again.

  • grahame49

Most fans think Newcastle and Sunderland are great away days, also our away following are canny

  • Andgeo

Cardew does not have any qualities.

  • Kev82

Couldn’t be happier for Jonas, if that’s his last game for us he can leave with his head held high. Hope we can agree 1 more year with him.

  • v0ices

  • zetoon

Looks like the happy clappers have been appeased

  • Toon Magpie

He is clear of it. Jonas did good getting of it and saving Newcastle as well as himself.

  • safcftm

He deserves it, especially what he’s been through and no better way to do it in front of your fans in a nervous stadium. As I said earlier we hate each other as fans of our clubs but lots of my good pals are Geordies but true fans like most at safc… Well done NUFC yous got behind your team and done it for the 2 lads who lost their lives traveling pre season. Well done NUFC

  • Toon Magpie

    Idiocy!

  • v0ices
