John Carver has said that he would have accepted the Newcastle job permanently even if United had been relegated on Sunday.
However, in the aftermath of the West Ham match and staying in the Premier League, the Head Coach says that he has had assurances from both Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley that the club will be investing this summer, something which John Carver describes as ‘very very important’.
Alan Pardw’s former number two says that he would love the chance this summer to build a team and show everybody that he can ‘actually do the job’.
When asked though if he was desperate to find out quickly whether he’d be given that chance, Carver replied that he wasn’t bothered about that and was just looking forward to getting away on holiday.
Speaking to the club’s official TV channel, John Carver:
“I have had the assurances from Mike (Ashley) and Lee (Charnley), that we are going to invest in the summer. Very very important.
“I am now going away on holiday, have a couple of days out the country, look forward to it now and see what the future brings.”
Love to build a team this summer:
“One thing I will say is, when I took this on four or five months ago, I wanted it permanently.
“My opinion hasn’t changed, I still want the job and even if we’d got relegated I’d still have wanted the job because I would love the summer to build this team and put together and show people that I can actually do this job.”
‘Would you like that to be sorted out quite quickly?’
“I’m not bothered about that, I’m going to go away and enjoy myself now.”
