A list of the best 10 Premier League top tacklers has been compiled with the campaign coning to an end this weekend.
Over the course of the season Opta have added up how many successful tackles have been made by every Premier League player.
At the top of the list is unsurprisingly Nemanja Matic, who is way ahead of the competition.
The Chelsea player has been outstanding for the champions in his role protecting the back four.
Great to see two Newcastle players featuring in the Top 10, or really I should say Top 6!
Take a few seconds to guess who the pair are, it shouldn’t be difficult….
Yes amongst the debris of our season, there has been the odd shining light.
I would rate three players as well ahead of the rest and ironically they were all brought in as new signings last summer.
Ayoze Perez of course has exceeded everybody’s expectations, supposedly one for the future….the youngster plucked from the Spanish second tier was thrown on as a sub in the very first game of the season against Manchester City and has featured in 36 of Newcastle’s 38 Premier League matches.
As for the top two tacklers…they are the other two players who undoubtedly stand out ahead of the rest.
Step forward Daryl Janmaat and Jack Colback who rate numbers five and six respectively in the Premier League top tacklers this season, number of successful tackles precedes each player:
129 Nemanja Matic (Chelsea)
115 Nataniel Clyne (Southampton)
114 George Boyd (Burnley)
106 Pablo Zableta (Man City)
103 Daryl Janmaat (Newcastle)
101 Jack Colback (Newcastle)
96 Jake Livermore (Hull)
96 Moran Schneiderlin (Southampton)
95 Joel Ward (Crystal Palace)
95 Antonio Valencia (Man Utd)
