Last summer saw big changes in the Newcastle squad, with four players (Cabella, Janmaat, Colback and Riviere) making their debuts in the starting eleven on the first day the season against Manchester City and another new signing (Perez) appearing off the bench.

Recent days have seen a number of rumours about more significant turnover in the squad with a large number coming in and going out potentially.

First of all there were claims that there would be a ‘£60m pot’ for signings in the summer, with a decent part of the ‘pot’ being raised by selling soem of the established players.

Then we had the Telegraph reporting that Cisse, Sissoko, Krul and Tiote were all unsettled for various reasons and both they and Mike Ashley could be happy to do business with them all this summer.

Mike Ashley has shown that he is willing to make wholesale moves when he feels like it, such as signing five players in January 2013 when relegation threatened.

It may be an extreme but I have come up with a strating eleven for next season that could potentially have eleven players with only 41 Premier League starts (as things stand now) at Newcastle between them.

The most experienced of those being Ayoze Perez with 18 starts so far for United.

It isn’t inconceivable that Darlow has been signed as a potential replacement for Tim Krul and not many fans would be upset if we started fresh at centre-back with two new players.

A new striker and midfielder are essential, particularly if the likes of Sissoko goes as is rumoured.

Whilst I don’t think many supporters would be upset to see players such as Aarons, de Jong, Abeid, Haidara and Perez in the team for next season’s kick-off – Jamaal Lascelles a bit of a wildcard at right-back.

Potential 2015/16 team with number of Premier League matches started so far for Newcastle United:

0 Karl Darlow

0 Jamaal Lascelles

0 New Central Defender

0 New Central Defender

17 Massadio Haidara

5 Mehdi Abeid

0 New Midfielder

1 Siem de Jong

0 Rolando Aarons

18 Ayoze Perez

0 New Striker

If they’re jumping ship dont expect Aarons to stay ?

No mention of Colback – although a profit would be got if sold, even for a quid.

  • Paul Patterson

Actually, if you keep Tim Krul and use Darlow as understudy instead of Rob Elliot, switch Lascalles to centre back (his proper position)plus keep Janmaat and put Colback in the centre, I’d be looking at the side with more confidence. And it wouldn’t cost the earth.

    Krul
    Janmaat
    Lascalles
    New centre back
    Haidara
    Abeid
    Colback
    De Jong
    Perez
    New striker

    Darlow
    Streete
    Aarons
    Obertan
    Cabella

It doesn’t look too bad. However I’d prefer to see Carver ousted and McClaren installed . .

Paul Patterson said “And it wouldn’t cost the earth” Cos we cant compete with the likes of Southampton, Swansea and West ham ?.
Watching McClaren tonight and noticed he’s got his “analyst” sitting tight next to him ???? What’s with these guys cant they see the game for themselves ?

    Does it really matter?
