Newcastle United are involved in the relegation fight according to Sky Sports.

Naming eight clubs as contenders, along with Sunderland and six others, United are seen as possibles for the drop.

With only 3 wins in the last 18 competitive games (including 2 in 13 under John Carver), it would still take a monumental effort by the Newcastle Head coach and his players to ‘win’ this contest.

Everton are the team currently in 12th and counted safe with 37 points, two more than Newcastle.

My money would be on Burnley as the most likely to put a run of wins together out of those in the bottom three, though there looks a few too many teams and too few remaining matches to drag NUFC into real troublke.

If Newcastle had five or six points less then I would fear the worst.

sky sportsWho would your money be on to fill the three relegation spots?

Well done to Ashley and Charnley in their cheapskate appointment of the buffon, Charver. It was never going to work – we all knew that would be the case. Except that is, for the shopkeeper and his incompetent side kick. When will they ever listen to the supporters?

  • jimblag

Carver is a magician, he’s making Pardew look like a managerial genius.

  • LeazesEnder

jimblag … and at the end f the campaign he’s going to disappear!

  • magpiefifer

Fortunately for Ashley we’ll stay in the PL by the skin of our teeth – can’t see 5 teams getting enough points to overtake us.

  • DownUnderMag

I think we will stay up by the narrowest of margins, but when I did the scores prediction and saw that I had predicted us to finish in the 3rd relegation spot I did begin to worry that it was a distinct possibility.   The problem lies in that we are expecting other teams not to pick up more points than we already have rather than we expect to be able to win any more games this season.  I just don’t see us getting another 3 points on the board…worrying if this is Ashley thinking we are good enough!

  • Ginkohro

TeamToon NUFCTheMag Actually they should rate NUFC as favorite.

  • Widdy

After following  the Magpie’s for over 58 years, I have never seen such a shambles, the 50,000 plus fans do not deserve such rubbish. As for Carver he  is out of his depth,it breaks my heart to say it BUT I HAVE GIVEN UP!

After a quick look at the way the fixtures fall, those with the biggest worries look to be Villa, Hull and QPR, assuming Leicester are almost down. Last night’s match between Villa and QPR showed that there is fight in both of them.

If we win the home game against Leicester, Ashley’s income should be safe. Lose that game and we are in trouble.

It wouldn’t be unknown for a relegated team to go out with a flourish. Pearson would surely like to leave a message at SJP and, after all, he and Carver combined to finish our last chance for silverware this season.

To right they are in it

For newcastle to be relegated qpr have to over turn a 9 point deficit, unlikely but not impossible, then their are teams like Sunderland who are still 6 points behind, along with villa and hull (7), seen as they only have 6 matches left and one of them matches is against us. I do admit, i am a bit nervous, but i fear more for next season unless a massive change has been made, either with ashley’s mentality, signing new players or bringing in a class manager. Leicester, Burnley and HUll down

  • David Craig

Can’t “like” this but it’s quite true.

  • Hughie

Rubbish scaremongering. 35 points may well be enough to keep us up and a couple of draws definitely will.

  • Brownale69

at 100-1 its worth a flutter ha ha

  • Nobbysleftfoot

I think we’re just about safe, as we’ll probably just about scrape a point or two from the last few games, and 9 points is a lot for Burnley or QPR to get back. I can see us finishing about 5th bottom though, which is bad enough. But for that purple patch back in October / November we’d be doomed right now.

If nothing else, it should convince Ashley to hire a proper manager and buy some players. Without that we’ll be going down next year.

  • snodgrass2

mrkgw You say we only need a few more points and should get 2 or 3! Where from? We are the only team in that list that can’t score nor keep a clean sheet. How will we beat the scousers or the spurs or Leicester. We couldn’t even draw with Sunderland who have only won 5 times this season which includes TWICE against us. We should be worried.

  • newcastle7

Lets all get behind the team at Anfield next Monday and Spurs a week on Monday instead of doom and gloom. How about sack the .

  • Toon Magpie

Alan Pardew is doing just fine.

  • Toon Magpie

newcastle7 Are you for real? Get behind the team? what team?

  • Toon Magpie

Widdy You get exactly what you deserve. Why are you still going?

  • Toon Magpie

SGM Maximus Moose LeazesEnder jimblag Oh yes he is.

  • killyted

we are not too good to go down, although I do think/hope we will get the 2/3 points needed to stay up .a lot of  answers is required as  to where the club is going
