Sammy Ameobi looks to be heading for a busy summer.

The Newcastle winger is almost certain to be looking for a new club as his United contract runs out and he has done nothing to suggest he deserves another one.

However, on the international front, Stephen Keshi is hoping to bring him into the Nigeria squad.

Keshi has just signed a new 2 year contract to once again look after Nigeria and they have June qualifiers for the 2017 African Cup of Nations finals.

Stephen Keshi:

“I was in touch with Sammy Ameobi and it sort of died down after I left, but we we’ll rekindle that now.

“I will talk to the NFF General Secretary and President to see if we can bring him in for the qualifiers but he is not the only one .

Overseas players:

“We have several other overseas born players we want to give a chance and we brought in Steven Ukoh from Switzerland, plus we still have several others.

“If they are qualified to play for Nigeria and we think they can give us what we want, then surely we will bring them in.”

In recent times the Nigeria Football Federation have been keen to tempt players born abroad with Nigerian roots, or those that have represented other countries at age-group competitions to instead play for the Super Eagles.

Victor Moses is one of the most high profile to elect to play for Nigeria and Sammy Ameobi has already been involved at Under 21 level with England.

Nigeria face Egypt, Tanzania and Chad in qualification.
