John Carver says that one thing he is sure of is that the Newcastle players won’t ‘shirk responsibilities’.

The Newcastle Head Coach claims that a lot of the team are hurting but he admits he needs even more of that.

Carver however was pleased with his half-time tactical change after having admitted he was was happy that Newcastle were only one goal down at the break.

John Carver:

“I just thought we started the game quite nervously, with a bit of tension, you could see that – I think there was a bit of tension around the stadium.

“I was quite happy actually to go in 1-0 down because we weren’t great, we were poor.”

Tactical genius:

“We came out in the second half and had a great start, I changed it tactically and brought on two wide guys, to get us up the pitch and put pressure on their back four.

“It seemed to work more or less from the kick-off, so that was a positive step.”

No shirking:

“The one thing they (Newcastle players) won’t do is shirk their responsibilities.

“There is a lot of guys in there who do care, it hurts them, but we have to have more of that.”
