It is good news and bads news on the Newcastle injuries front for the derby match on Sunday.

Despite returning to training on Monday, Rolando Aarons won’t be risked against Sunderland after over five months out of action.

The Shields Gazette say that they understand that the winger won’t be included in Sunday’s squad but that Mehdi Abeid is in line to be included.

Maybe a derby game wouldn’t be ideal to throw in an injury-plagued winger with tackles flying in everywhere, but if Abeid is anywhere near fit then he surely must be included to add extra steel to the middle of the pitch – especially if Jack Colback plays left-back once again.

Ironically, Rolando Aarons could be in line to be involved against Liverpool on his return, having made his last appearance against the scouser in the 1-0 victor at St. James’ Park on the 1st November.

That match has been moved to the Monday night (13 April) giving Aarons every chance of making it.
