England cricket legend Graeme Swann backs Newcastle United boycott
England cricket legend Graeme Swann has backed the planned boycott by United fans in protest at Mike Ashley’s running of the club.
Swann is also a big Newcastle fan and says he understands why supporters are so unhappy when they have an owner who has no interest in trying to win anything.
The former spinner pointing out that the latest desperate run has seen Newcastle lose five in a row and never looking like getting anything from any of them.
Graeme Swann speaking to Radio 5 Live:
“I can understand Newcastle fans wanting to boycott games. Our owner says we won’t bother to try and win the league or a cup. That attitude leads to a general malaise.
“We have now lost five on the bounce and didn’t look like winning any of those games.”
Alan Pardew smells:
“Alan Pardew chose to leave Newcastle to move to Palace, who were struggling at the time. That shows something.
“He is a good football manager and he’s come out of this smelling of roses. The club hasn’t.”
