Dick Advocaat has made a big thing of it to the press today, saying that he has told only one player that they are definitely appearing for Sunderland v Newcastle match on Sunday.
Obviously trying to whip the fans up into a frenzy, the new manager has named thug Lee Cattermole in the starting eleven, but confirmed no other players as definite starters.
Advocaat has no doubt been briefed as to the history of the derby matches and the encounters between the likes of Tiote and Cattermole that have often set the tone.
With no Ivory Coast midfielder in United’s team this time, it remains to be seen whether the Sunderland midfielder still tries to kick anything that moves, or actually tries to play football.
“He (Cattermole) was the only one I told at the team meeting this morning that he will play, so he knows.
“They definitely missed him because he didn’t play for 10 or 11 games, he had 10 weeks out and that is quite a long time.
“He’s the controller of the team and a player with experience, so for the team it is good, not only as a player, but also as a person, that he is back in the team.’
