It has now been revealed that Daryl Janmaat played through the pain barrier against Sunderland.

One of the few players who could still hold their heads up after a fifth derby defeat in a row, it has emerged that the Dutch international picked up a calf injury in the warm-up before kick-off at the Stadium of Light.

The Newcastle medical team believed he may have a slight tear in his calf but with so few other options, Daryl Janmaat had to play at centre-back in the derby.

Whether he could have managed to play his usual more energy-sapping role up and down the right side must be doubtful.

Liverpool is a week today and Janmaat is to be assessed by the Newcastle club doctor to see whether he will be available.

John Carver speaking to the Shields Gazette:

“We came in after the warm-up and Daryl Janmaat had a calf problem, he might have a slight tear in his calf.

“Thankfully he got through the 90 minutes but that was what I had to deal with going into this game.”

You have got to be kidding me.

  • David Grey

You couldn’t write this comedy of a club

  • Gordan Nufc Burke

can we not just give Liverpool the points instead of playin them

  • Anthony Darling

So why did we risk playing him in the first place!!! This is the reason why our players are always injured!!! The physios at the club are a disgrace!!!

  • WallaceWilson

Another victim of the club policy to cut costs and then cut again. Ironically, if we stay up Charnley will congratulate himself on a job well done. The fans ‘ views are, at best, ignored and the fact that another season has ended in January (hopefully) means a maximum return for minimum outlay.

Risk him? Jonas can’t play everywhere!

All I can say is someone needs to step up. Why not play the bench from yesterdays game. Relegation….bring it on.

  • Geordie Zebra

If Janmaat misses then he will be unable to play as opposed to on jollies. Top man, top player. Wish we had more like him!!

    Or loan out Ferguson too.

Jonas played right back for Argentina. Wonder if Carver will realise that and put Abeid in alongside Sissoko and Colback for 3 in the middle and play Raylor at left back.
