Like the rest of us, young Newcastle player Callum Roberts said he dreamed of playing Premier League football from being a little boy.
Unlike 99.9% of the rest of us, Roberts’ dream could become a reality.
Turning 18 in April, the winger will be hoping he can add to his one appearance in the FA Cup this season, coming off the bench in the 1-0 defeat at Leicester.
However, the United youngster will have to bounce back from his recent spell at Gateshead, where he became the latest Newcastle player to experience the loan curse that has become a regular occurrence for most of the players sent out.
After a couple of appearances, Callum Roberts was left out of the first team and the Heed Army wanted him to play for their reserves.
Newcastle quite rightly bringing him back to at least play at the higher level of United’s second string.
He has still got plenty time to progress but this season you’d have to think it is a pretty big leap from Gateshead also-ran to the Premier League.
Callum Roberts speaking to the Chronicle:
“That is what I want to do, play in the Premier League.
“It is what I have wanted to do since being a little boy, so if I get that chance it is massive for me.
“Hopefully I can get another chance and I just need to keep working hard.”
