Arsenal are today reported to be preparing a bid to take Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman to the Emirates.

Southampton are also interested in buying the 18 year old keeper this summer according to the Mail.

Both clubs are said to be impressed with Freddie Woodman’s progress and performances for England at various youth levels. Last summer Woodman helped England win the Under 17 European Championships in Malta.

The Newcastle player is currently away with the England Under 19s taking part in Elite Round qualifiers for the European Championships.

On Saturday night he helped a clean sheet as England beat Azerbaijan 1-0 and will be hoping to face France tonight in the latest qualifier.

Bids of around £1m are being speculated but it would be disastrous if Newcastle were to lose such a promising young player.

At the minute Tim Krul and Rob Elliot are ahead of Woodman at Newcastle with Jak Alnwick set to leave in the summer.

However, Karl Darlow will be arriving a year after he signed for United, having spent an extra year at Forest on loan.

Reject them. Surely Mike knows that he could get more for him in the future. It is his strong point after all.

send Woodman out on loan for a season, let Darlow and Elliot fight it out for reserve keeper

  • Steve Passmoor

can they take his fatha too while they’re on? PLEASE!

Letting him go would come back to bite us in the arse, BIG TIME !!!

He shows so much promise, it would be a trevesty if we lost him !!!

The only problem is, as I see it, I don´t think “Cardew” (see what I did there ?) actually has the acumen or the tactical courage to help him progress !!!

At this stage of the season with nothing to play for, not even pride, judging by recent displays, we should be giving the likes of Woodman, Armstrong, and a couple of other bright young prospects the chance to shine and show some pride in the shirt !!!

I would rather see us lose after a passionate display than have to sit through another drab display, the likes of which we´ve seen too often this season !!!

Once upon a time we used to talk about having the “odd bad 45 minutes”, nowadays all we have to look to is the odd good 45 minutes !!!

Hope is always the last thing to die !!!

I think it would be an even bigger shock if we were to actually let the lad go.

Play the lad now at the toon and he’ll ruin his career with the defence we have. I thought Alnwick would make the grade but having cart horses in front of you makes your job almost impossible and makes you look worse than you are Even Krul with all his experience has problems some games trying to cover for poor defenders.
