Newcastle striker Adam Armstrong may be getting limited opportunities at club level but he showed his worth for England earlier today.

The Geordie striker scored the only goal of the game as England Under 18s beat Switzerland 1-0 at St. George’s Park.

After a mediocre first-half, it only took England three minutes after the restart to get the vital goal.

Taylor Moore played in Armstrong and the keeper saved his first effort, the Newcastle striker knocking the ball home as it came back out to him.

Having a lively game, Adam Armstrong was involved in a number of moves that should have brought more goals, with the goalscorer also unlucky to see the Swiss header do well to keep his header out.

Armstrong and his England teammates meet Switzerland again this week at Walsall’s Banks’s Stadium, with kick-off at 5.30pm on Saturday.

England: Norman (Farnborough, on-loan from Fulham),  Kenny (Everton), Adarabioyo (Manchester City), Moore (RC Lens), Connolly (Everton), Ledson (Everton), Reed (Sheffield United), Sims (Southampton), Ojo (Wigan, on-loan from Liverpool), Armstrong (Newcastle), Solanke (Chelsea)

Kane has shown that if you are good enough you are old enough.   I’m not saying Armstrong is that good yet but he needs game time, along with countless others at the club who need to be given the chance to progress.

The issue before was Pardew refused to give kids their chances.  Now, Carver is not doing any better.  This is down to him trying to hard to get the job permanently that he isn’t wanting to look at long term future of the club, he’s just feathering his own nest right now.  He needs to grow a pair and prove his best interests are the CLUB not himself…I think if he proved he had the fans and clubs interests at heart then he would get a lot more backing from the fans especially.  I just don’t think he has the balls to play these players because he is doing to poorly in terms of overall results…
