The latest Newcastle injury to hit the squad sees Mehdi Abeid out until April.

John Carver says the Algerian midfielder has picked up a thigh injury and will miss at least two to three weeks.

In Cheick Tiote’s absence and Jack Colback’s suspension, Abeid started both the Villa and Manchester United matches, his first back in the starting eleven since the draw at Burnley at the beginning of December.

Whether Abeid would have kept his place with Colback available tomorrow is debatable, but certainly this latest blow doesn’t help a Newcastle United with a small squad and many existing injuries.

The midfielder will definitely miss the Everton game and the Arsenal game on the following weekend.

However, there is then a two week break for international matches before Newcastle have the small matter of another derby match on Wearside to prepare for.

“Mehdi Abeid is out with a thigh injury and that is two to three weeks.

“It is another headache and it was unexpected.”

Opportunity:

“It is at a time where he saw this as an opportunity to get back in the team after he broke his toe on international duty, he must have seen it as an opportunity.”

“It is a blow, another blow, but you have just got to get on with it.”

Same happened last season and the season before that. When there’s sod all to play for and no incentive, little niggles become bigger injuries.

A lex I’d like to know if we’d get the same number of injuries if we were actually competing for a trophy or, heaven forbid, the league ? I have a feeling that a lot of these niggles are brought about by player apathy. If there were semi final places up for grabs how many players would be on the sidelines ?

On the subject of injuries maybe you havent seen this image created by a fan who knows all too well the ups and downs of a footballer’s (I use the term loosely) life

  • PhilYare

why can’t williamson get injured for 12 months? and anita suspended for 27 games for punching a goat or summit?

  • stevennufc

I think most these injuries come down to the respect they have for the management…..(FA Cup anyone?)..or lack of it!! Like a few of the below comments state how many injuries would there be if we were competing for something. Just a sad state of affairs and why these lot don’t deserve my hard earned money
