Janmaat ‘It helps when you have Papiss Cisse in the team…’

Daryl Janmaat has highlighted just how much Newcastle are going to miss Papiss Cisse in the upcoming seven matches.

The Dutch defender saying that if you get the ball into the box then more often or not the Senegalese striker will put the ball away.

Recent matches have shown their partnership to be Newcastle’s best route for a goal, with Janmaat’s right wing crosses providing the bullets for Cisse’s goals against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.

The full-back puts his teammates to shame with six Premier League assists, Jack Colback next with four and after that nobody has more than two.

In terms of Premier League defenders, only Leighton Baines has created more goals, though five of his eight have come via the fact that he takes most of Everton’s set-pieces.

Daryl Janmaat speaking to the Shields Gazette:

“It helps when you have Papiss in the team because he is a really good goalscorer.

“You know that if you set him up with a chance, that more times than not he’ll take it.”

Every ball into the middle:

“He is an excellent finisher, although sometimes I think he probably wants to shoot me because I cut inside and he doesn’t like it. He wants every ball into the middle.”

How United cope without Papiss Cisse in these next seven matches will be a challenge and somebody needs to step up and fill his boots.

Ayoze Perez is second top scorer with five goals but he has looked in recent times to have suffered because there has been no credible alternative to play in the team.

Maybe the time is right just to stick Emmanuel Riviere in alongside Perez for this run of matches and see if it sparks something, otherwise we are going to get to the end of the season with the French striker having zero confidence and United having nothing at all to suggest he can do a job next season.
